"Koala replied to me quickly. I had 3 quotes, Koala provided the insulation I needed at a good price, but beyond that, the customer service from the quote to the work was great. It was seemless and all done with kindness, willing to take time to explain and answer questions. Prompt, in fact I made my decision on a Friday with a Monday completion. THANK YOU"

Kasi is a local, family-owned and operated spray foam insulation contractor. We service Phoenix, Tucson, Prescott, and northern Arizona. Two brothers, Patrick and Paul Kariniemi, founded Kasi in 2010. Prior to starting Kasi, Patrick spent ten years with a spray foam roofing company in Phoenix and Paul was an industrial construction contractor in Minnesota. Although we’ve tested nearly every foam insulation product available in Arizona, we’ve only purchased foam from a few suppliers. We have an 11-year long relationship with our injected foam manufacturer and a five year long relationship with our spray foam supplier. Since each foam insulation product has its own application characteristics, we’ve found that you have a lot fewer problems by sticking with reputable manufacturers who stand behind their products. As a result, our technicians are experts in the products they install.\n\n

"So far we only had the energy survey and report (sales pitch). The technician and sales rep were courteous and provided answers to our questions. Neither were pushy. We are doing comparatives on the cost of adding insulation to the attic and sealing leaking vent, ducts and returns. We told them we were not interested in Solar and they did not force the issue. They did suggest we do the outlets and door molding ourselves."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Yes, proper insulation in your attic or ceiling can help prevent ice dams. When attic spaces are too warm, they cause the snow on the roof over those areas to melt more quickly than the rest of the roof and then travel downward to a colder section of the roof where they refreeze. If less heat is allowed to escape from underneath the roof, snow will melt at a more consistent rate, making ice dams less likely.

There are many ways to keep your house cool without central air. In fact, ductless mini-split AC systems are a solid alternative to central AC for situations when you can’t install ducts in your home. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly cooling solution, consider using window AC units or portable air conditioners.

Hanging a thick blanket over your windows will help to keep the heat inside, but only a little. Covering the glass will also prevent the sunlight from getting in, which might actually decrease the efficiency of your window overall. If you get to the point where you’re hanging blankets over your window to keep warm, call in an expert to seal around your windows to prevent warm air from escaping. They may also recommend replacing old windows that aren’t as insulative as newer window technology. Sealing a window isn’t terribly expensive and can make a big difference.

Yes, even though frost-free and freeze-proof faucets are designed to withstand winter weather, it is still recommended to cover them with an insulated cap, especially during periods of extreme cold. These faucets work by keeping excess water inside the home's heated space and using a downward slope to drain, but this protection can be compromised. For the faucet to work correctly, you must always disconnect any attached hoses before temperatures drop below freezing, as a hose can trap water and lead to freezing. Ultimately, covering all outdoor faucets, even freeze-proof models, is the best way to prevent frozen and burst pipes.

Energy-efficient homes generally have higher appraisals and appeal to buyers.
