"We are exceptionally pleased with Bolt Electric's work (Matt) installing a ceiling fan on our vaulted ceiling. The fan was assembled, mounted (including light kit) in less than an hour and boxes etc were all hauled away and the work area completely clean. The cost was very reasonable. I would absolutely have Bolt out to our house for any future electrical work."

"First visit this year, electrician found and isolated portion of the circuit that was causing the problem, plus installed two exterior light fixtures at main entrance door. Second visit Installed GFCI's required to bring home up to code for resale and installed two exterior motion sensitive light fixtures. All completed at a reasonable as quoted price in minimum time. "My yard, which is very large, was over run with trash trees and and shrubs. Some of the trees had broken limbs and some were dead. It was a big job. I called 3 landscaping companies and Diego was the first to respond and came to the property the same day. As we walked around the property I told Diego I wanted the property cleaned up and improve the look of the property. He told me it was a big job and would take 3 days to complete and gave me the cost and I agreed. Diego and his crew on Monday and started working. And on the 3rd day the property was transformed. I was surprised and elated at the job they did. I highly recommend this company. Diego is a professional, honest, and hardworking. He did everything I wanted and then some. It was worth every penny. You can't go wrong with Diego! I It was worth every penny."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Several signs can indicate a light switch is bad. If the switch feels loose, slides down after you flip it, or requires multiple flicks to turn the light on, it may be failing. Other common indicators include flickering lights or a general failure to turn the light on or off. Pay attention to any unusual sounds, such as crackling, buzzing, or popping when you operate the switch. More serious signs, which can present a fire or shock hazard, include the switch feeling excessively warm or hot, sparking, smoking, or emitting a burning smell. If you notice any of these dangerous signs, stop using the switch immediately and call an electrician.

Yes, you must use an extension cord specifically rated for outdoor use to power outdoor lights, such as Christmas lights. Extension cords intended for indoor use lack the protective properties to withstand exposure to outdoor elements. To safely hang and power lights outside your house or in your yard, always connect them to an outdoor power source using an outdoor-rated extension cord.

Many homes have a 200-amp service, which requires a 2-inch electrical meter riser. Larger homes or homes that require more energy for several appliances and devices may have a 400-amp service. For 400-amp service, opt for a 4-inch electrical meter riser.

A home electrical inspection usually takes one to two hours. Full home inspections fall on the longer side, while code compliance inspections that focus on a single repair or installation may only take a few minutes. Optional add-ons like infrared inspections can add time, but these aren’t usually included in your standard inspection.

Under-cabinet lighting is generally energy-efficient, especially when using LED technology. Compared to traditional ceiling lighting or older bulb types like halogen and incandescent, LED under-cabinet lights consume significantly less energy, which helps reduce operating costs. This applies to various forms, including strip lights, puck lights, and built-in fixtures. For an option that uses no electricity, consider battery-operated puck lights. While they require periodic battery replacements, they have the added advantage of functioning during a power outage.
