"Cook Remodeling converted my carport to a garage and they did a wonderful job. They made sure everything was perfect and I ended up with a beautiful addition to my home. I worked with Jeff Cook and from our initial meeting, to his estimate, and all the way through construction I felt that he was listening to what I wanted while also sharing his expertise. Everyone that worked at my house, both Cook Remodeling employees and their subcontractors, were professional and treated me with respect. They always were considerate of my needs and they cleaned up at the end of every day. I would definitely work with Cook Remodeling again."

"These two brothers, Jim and Joe Griffin, and their crew were always professional, their work was thorough and meticulous, they were pleasant to work with, and sensitive to the remodeling process and all of the associated issues and pressures. As with any extensive remodeling project there were unexpected / unforeseen issues. All of these issues were examined, explained, and options provided and were covered by our contingency funds. There were also several recommendations for improvements that were explored, accepted, and the budget was modified accordingly. We highly recommend New England Upgrades for their integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work with us to bring our vision and design into reality. The New England team was a pleasure to work with and we consider them friends. We will be using them again for future smaller projects and have already referred them to multiple friends. We appreciate all of their help, positive attitude, and hard work! Kay and Michael"

"The job they did was fabulous. They were on time, cleaned as they went and were very friendly. They were so precise in matching the paint, you cant even tell that wall was torn down, repaired and repainted. We definitely will be calling them for our next job."

"This company is very easy to work with! From the initial in home consultation, to the very end, they were nothing but professional. During the consultation they listened to what we wanted and gave realistic feedback while keeping in mind budget & taste. The timeline from start to finish was very amazing, especially since we just purchased our house and needed new bath & walk in showers as soon as possible. The workers were not only friendly but the cleanest construction crew I have ever seen. They left my hallway cleaner than when they arrived, the extra effort was noticed. Being in a house that is being remodeled, with multiple projects happening at once, that is truly saying a lot! Very happy with the end product and HIGHLY recommend!"

Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel questions, answered by experts

Shower niches can be placed anywhere they will be most accessible for those in the shower. A shower niche should be close enough to the showerhead that it’s convenient to grab products, but not so close that it’s in the direct path of the water. You can also consider the overall shower design and favor symmetry, integrate the niche with the tile design, or hire a bathroom remodeling contractor to help you decide.

Installing a walk-in bathtub can be worth it if it improves the user's safety and independence. However, because walk-in tubs require a large investment, not every homeowner has the means or desire to install one. As an alternative, some homeowners prefer to install a walk-in shower and transfer bench instead. Walk-in showers cost between $1,150 and $8,000, making them far more budget-friendly in comparison.

Typically, a wet room costs more than a walk-in shower. Installing a walk-in shower costs an average of $6,700, but this price can go up for a customized shower with high-end materials. By comparison, the average price for building a wet room is $9,000, with the low end of this project hovering around $2,000 and going up to around $30,000 on the high end. Because a wet room often includes renovating the whole space, you’ll spend more on this project.

To fill the gap between your bathroom vanity and the side wall, a simple DIY caulk application should do the trick. Applying a bead of caulk along the gap creates a seamless finish while also helping to protect the wall and prevent dust or debris from accumulating in the space.

Most modern showers have a prefabricated base made from fiberglass or plastic, such as acrylic or polyurethane. Nonetheless, concrete mortar is still the traditional, go-to base for a custom walk-in shower.

You’ll need to add a waterproofing liner or membrane between the layers of mortar to keep moisture out. From there, you can top it with whatever type of tile you like to create a spa-like custom look. Be sure to include these considerations in your budget for the cost of a walk-in shower.
