"My chest freezer broke down and I did not want to buy a new one since I could not afford the same size. I reached out to appliance parts pro and they were confident that what I ordered would fix my problem. $200 in parts later and I now have a broken freezer on my porch and am still paying the loan to this terrible company. They just want you to order parts and try them because they know you can't return them. I hate this company with every fiber of my being and will make sure that anyone that has a broken appliance will not use them. To top it off, their site is so screwed up that it give you an error trying to log back in. I ended up having to create THREE different accounts because every time I went to place a new order, it would not let me login and it would not send a password reset email. DON'T GET RIPPED OFF."

"Needed sewage pump replaced and line opened up. Called several others (Barr, A+,Fremyer, Comstock, Tri County) . None knew or cared what to do. I was told various things, call someone else or just ghosted. Powells took the bull by the horns. They tracked down the manufacturer of my old school system here in The Woods and with some detective work diagnosed and replaced pump without digging it all up. Two prior companies had said it needed to be dug up. If you have a REAL problem, call a REAL plumber!"

"I was without water and called in to see if they could come check my pressure switch. She went over that it's $90 instead of $60 plus labor. Once the guy got here it turned out since it was a no water call it would be a minimum of $350. I didn't have any plans for them to do work on the actual well, I didn't need the "no water truck" and did not ask for it. So that was absolutely ridiculous. He checked the pressure switch and left and I paid $397, he wasn't even here 10 minutes. I called and asked for a partial refund and as usual it took me calling and following up to get no where. Elizabeth was supposed to call me back on Tuesday with an update and I heard nothing. Hard to believe a company as old as they are can't get it together. I finally got a well drilling company out here on Monday, they were here for 6 hours and their total labor charge was only $600 vs $400 for 10 minutes of nothing. Really a poor way to treat your long time customers. What a rip off."

They must post their own positive reviews. They took my $65.00 fee and did nothing"

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

Signs that your water heater may explode include rust-colored water coming from hot water taps, the smell of sulfur or rotten eggs coming from the water, shaking or rumbling in the tank, and a leaky temperature and pressure valve. If the water heater feels excessively hot to the touch, it could also indicate the prospect of an explosion. If you suspect your water heater might explode, call a pro immediately to address the problem.

You have more options for water heaters than ever before. The best one for your home depends on your hot water usage and budget. Some of the more common types of water heaters are the conventional gas heater, a heat pump water heater, or a tankless heater for smaller homes or those with less water demands. Some uncommon types are solar and point-of-use systems. Some homes may have a combination of two units, such as a large heat pump heater and a backup point-of-use system.

A tankless water heater with a flow rate of 10 GPM should replace a conventional 50-gallon water heater. To avoid a surprise cold shower or two and to keep your energy costs in check, it's important to replace a conventional tanked water heater with the equivalent tankless water heater. Your household size and the number of hot-water-using devices you use at once can help you determine the best-size tankless water heater.

Not all homes are required by code to have water heater expansion tanks, though some cities, like Los Angeles, do. Sometimes, municipalities will require a code that asks homeowners to install an expansion tank if their water heater is on a closed system. A closed system setup without an expansion tank can place unnecessary stress on appliances and shorten their lifespan.

Traditional gas or electric water heaters last an average of six to 11 years. However, with excellent maintenance, they can last up to 15 years. Heat pump water heaters, on the other hand, last an average of between 12 and 15 years and potentially longer with proper maintenance. In both cases, your home's water quality can be a determining factor regarding the lifespan of your water heater.
