"I had another carpet installer do the initial install, and was so dissatisfied that I didn't even want him back in my house. Dave came in and corrected the problems, charged a fair price, and was in and out in no time. Wish I had found him to sooner."

"We used JJB Home Improvements to replace 2 structural entry posts. This project also required removing and re-laying brick where the posts were anchored in the half walls. This project was very frustrating as it was impossible to diagnose exactly what was causing the post erosion without removing brick and opening up the soffit. We talked with many, many engineers and contractors and received many different point of views/recommendations. JJB was the only company that: 1) correctly diagnosed the issue before taking down the brick wall or soffit, 2) thoughtfully broke down and priced the bid into individual steps depending upon what they might find when the soffit/wall was revealed, 3) was capable/expert in doing ALL necessary repairs - - masonry, carpentry, concrete, structural. JJB’s finishing work was excellent, and it’s next to impossible to determine where the old portion of the wall stops and the new wall begins. We could always get a hold of JJB when we needed to discuss the project, and never had to wait to hear back from them. They treated this project as if it was their own home. We would (and will) use JJB over and over again in the future. Highly recommend."

"Chris was the only drywall contractor to return my call. He quickly gave us a free estimate and thoroughly explained what would be done. We scheduled the service and gave a down payment to coverthe cost of materials. He and his team were couteous and professional at all times. Chris was very conscientious. Quality work is top priority. When small bubbles appeared as the joint compound dried, Chris purchased a different formulation and quickly resolved the problem. Once the painting was done we could not tell the difference between the original and replacement sections. Literally, a flawless result. During the days when each layer of mud was drying we would sometimes hear loud popping noises in one of the rooms. Chris identified the problem (loosening of an original section of wall that was not being replaced) and resolved it with a few well placed drywall screws and mud. The crew did an excellent job, doing extra work to give us a top notch result while staying on budget. Mud Slingers will get any additional drywall work we may need in the future.

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

The lifespan of tile flooring can vary significantly based on the material and maintenance. Generally, tile flooring can last anywhere from 10 to 30 years, but high-quality, well-maintained ceramic tile can last 75 to 100 years. To achieve a longer lifespan, you should clean the tiles and grout regularly, reseal the grout annually, keep the floor dry, and avoid placing extremely heavy items on it to prevent cracking. Choosing a high-quality tile (Grade 1) will also contribute to its longevity.

The rule tells you how to cut tile to install it in a corner. The 3/4/5 rule recommends that you should have 3 feet across on one straight line, four feet on the other perpendicular line, and 5 feet of length from the end of one of the lines to the other. You’re making a right triangle with the tile, and the hypotenuse (the line across from where the 3-foot lie and 4-foot line meet) should be 5 feet long.

Flooring transition strips can be secured to the subfloor using glue, nails, or screws. For a more secure installation, especially in high-traffic areas, using screws or nails is recommended as it reduces the risk of slippage. However, if aesthetic appeal is a priority, glue provides a cleaner, more seamless finish without any visible holes or screw heads.

You should always use caulk instead of grout where the tile meets the wall. This will help your tile installation look great and last a long time. When you accidentally use grout for the corner seams, you end up making the tiles too rigid. So as the wall shifts over time, your tiles have no wiggle room. This can lead to tile damage, which will eventually require you to do at least a partial reinstallation.

Thinset mortar is the best adhesive for ceramic tiles on concrete. It is easy to work with and has a slower dry time than mastic or epoxy mortars. This longer dry time gives the installer more time to adjust tiles, which is especially useful for DIYers who may not have tile installation experience. It can also be built up to help level any depressions or gaps in the concrete subfloor.
