"I had another carpet installer do the initial install, and was so dissatisfied that I didn't even want him back in my house. Dave came in and corrected the problems, charged a fair price, and was in and out in no time. Wish I had found him to sooner."

"Prompt, reliable service. Owner was easy to work with and foreman with his colleague were courteous and efficient. Since it was a nice day, my windows were open and I could hear their conversations and problem solving...this was all done very professionally. Before they left they cleaned up the area (spotless) and provided recommendations for keeping the gutters clean. Do not hesitate to hire this company."

"JJB was great from start to finish. They were responsive to our initial inquiry, responded to any all all questions in a timely manner, did great work, and everything was completed (site visit, quote, adjustments to plans and cost, and all of the actual work) in less than one month's time! We wanted to change a barn door setup that was separating a bedroom from a bathroom into a pocket door, and they handled closing off the wall and installing the new door. We also worked with them to get both sides of the wall (and the rest of the bedroom walls) painted. Finally, they helped with some floor repairs due to wood underneath the carpet having caved in in a few small spots."

"Chris was the only drywall contractor to return my call. He quickly gave us a free estimate and thoroughly explained what would be done. We scheduled the service and gave a down payment to coverthe cost of materials. He and his team were couteous and professional at all times. Chris was very conscientious. Quality work is top priority. When small bubbles appeared as the joint compound dried, Chris purchased a different formulation and quickly resolved the problem. Once the painting was done we could not tell the difference between the original and replacement sections. Literally, a flawless result. During the days when each layer of mud was drying we would sometimes hear loud popping noises in one of the rooms. Chris identified the problem (loosening of an original section of wall that was not being replaced) and resolved it with a few well placed drywall screws and mud. The crew did an excellent job, doing extra work to give us a top notch result while staying on budget. Mud Slingers will get any additional drywall work we may need in the future.

"Mastercat is genuinely awesome!!!  I had been having health issues, including hives and fatigue.  I finally figured out that it was from mold growing in my basement.  I had an independent inspector test the surface samples and air and there was toxic black mold growing on a hidden wall in my basement and mold in the air.  Given the seriousness of the situation, I read every review on mold remediators that I could find on Angie's List!  I finally decided that Mastercat was the best option.  There was also a coupon for a discount on service.  Although the process was expensive given the extensive remediation needed in my home, it was somewhat affordable and VERY worth it.  In fact, the experience ended up paying for itself.  I had lost my diamond wedding ring when my former housekeeper cleared the basement bedroom for guests coming into town, including the box where I had hidden my wedding ring (because I had contractors working on my bathroom upstairs at the time).  I assumed that the housekeeper had accidentally thrown out the box.  Actually, it was in a storage bin and the Mastercat team found it when they were cleaning every item for mold.  They were extremely honest and gave me back my wedding ring, which is worth more than the cost of the service.  I think that they were as excited as I was to have recovered the ring for me.  Their excellent quality, of course, matches their commendable honesty!   Donny, the owner, came promptly when I initially contacted him and was very detailed in his analysis.  He explained to me exactly what needed to be done and what options I had.  The crew was headed by Donny's wife, Norma.  She is the type of person that makes sure every single item is completed with the highest level of thoroughness and professionalism.  She even made the duct cleaners re-do their work because she checked the filter after they left and they had not replaced it.  She answered all my questions and was always warm and helpful.  The rest of the team was Nicholas, Frank and Jorge.  All of them were extremely respectful and conscientious (and as I mentioned before, very honest).  They removed dry wall, ceiling tiles, carpeting and all other porous surfaces.  They tossed items that were not worth cleaning (taking it out through basement windows so as not to contaminate my upstairs living area) and made sure that they cleaned and sterilized everything that remained in the basement. They used top level products and equipment, including huge industrial air scrubbers to clean the air throughout my home.  I would highly recommend Mastercat for any mold problem!

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Options include clay, concrete, and slate tiles. Each offers unique durability, aesthetics, and costs.

Yes, you can tile over existing tiles in a bathroom, but it is not always recommended. For this method to be successful, the original tile surface must be clean, flat, and free of damage such as cracks, unevenness, mold, or mildew. While tiling over existing tiles can save time and money, there are potential drawbacks. The new adhesive may not bond properly, and the process adds extra weight to the wall or floor. Additionally, the increased height of the surface could interfere with door clearances. For the best and most durable results, removing the old tiles before installing new ones is generally the better option.

There are no unbreakable rules of design, but experts recommend against using large tiles in areas with poor subflooring where they’re more prone to cracking, in areas where the floor isn’t entirely level, over raised areas or dips, and in bathrooms where budget is the primary concern. The size of your bathroom shouldn’t be a reason not to use large tiles; in fact, larger tiles, also known as slab tiles, can be a modern and sleek choice for bathroom floors and walls.

No, when done correctly, removing the tile shouldn’t damage the subfloor. However, if there was pre-existing damage to the subfloor from standard use or lack of maintenance, the subfloor may need repairs. For example, if the contractors notice mold growth on the subfloor or an uneven surface, you may need more extensive services before installing new tile.

If you DIY tile removal, remove the tiles one step at a time, individually removing the tile, grout, and mortar to prevent unnecessarily damaging the subfloor. Depending on the age of your home, consider having a professional inspect the subfloor to ensure it’s in good enough condition to lay new tile.

Installing kitchen countertop tiles on a mold and moisture-resistant cement backer board is one of the best options. When fitted correctly on top of a plywood base, it’s stable and long-lasting. Old-fashioned cement board is economical, cuts neatly and easily with a circular or jigsaw, and screws into plywood without any difficulty.
