Whether or not it’s safe to use a buzzing microwave depends on what’s causing the noise. If a loose fastener or a dirty cooling fan is the underlying issue, it’s safe to use your microwave, although you may do damage to the fan motor if you don’t clean the blades first. If the issue is stemming from something else, you could do further damage to your appliance and potentially even start a house fire if you don’t repair it before continued use. If the microwave is buzzing when not in use, shut the power and call an emergency electrician, as this could lead to a fire.

Built-in ovens are installed directly into a wall to sit flush with a kitchen's cabinets, counters, or walls. These ovens offer a streamlined appearance that can blend into the rest of your kitchen aesthetic. And if you want it to blend in even more, you can opt to put a cabinet door over the unit to match the rest of your cabinets. 

Another benefit of built-in ovens is that they help preserve your floor space. If you opt for a standalone oven, you'll need to find a place for it in your kitchen. However, since built-in ovens are flush with your walls or cabinets, they won't encroach on your square footage.

If your microwave is on the fritz and you suspect the fuse has blown, you can check it to confirm it’s the source of the problem. Start by disassembling the panel and carefully checking the fuse filament or ceramic components. If your microwave uses a glass fuse, you’ll likely see discoloration and a melted filament. If your microwave contains a ceramic fuse, you’ll need to use a multimeter continuity tester to check if there’s continuity.

Since you’re using high heat when cleaning the oven, it could damage some components that were on the verge of breaking. If this happens, first go to your circuit breaker, turn off the switch to your oven and flip it back on to see if it works. If it doesn’t, it could indicate you have a damaged control board or a tripped thermal fuse.

The magnetron, which is the component that generates the microwave energy used to heat your food, is the most likely piece to cause your appliance to fail. Unfortunately, your microwave won’t serve any purpose without a functioning magnetron, so not only is this the most common repair, but it’s also the most important. 

Repairing a broken magnetron usually costs between $100 and $200 or $175 on average. About half of that cost goes toward labor, and the other half is for a new magnetron. Higher-end microwaves may demand larger or more complex components, which could increase your repair cost.
