"My chest freezer broke down and I did not want to buy a new one since I could not afford the same size. I reached out to appliance parts pro and they were confident that what I ordered would fix my problem. $200 in parts later and I now have a broken freezer on my porch and am still paying the loan to this terrible company. They just want you to order parts and try them because they know you can't return them. I hate this company with every fiber of my being and will make sure that anyone that has a broken appliance will not use them. To top it off, their site is so screwed up that it give you an error trying to log back in. I ended up having to create THREE different accounts because every time I went to place a new order, it would not let me login and it would not send a password reset email. DON'T GET RIPPED OFF."

Since 2007, Capital Heating, Cooling, and Electric has provided professional HVAC services throughout SE Wisconsin. Our drive to ensure every one of our customers is 100% satisfied with our service has earned us accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, along with many awards, including the Angie’s List Super Service Award, Best of HomeAdvisor, and many more.

"I won a free tune-up for my furnaces from Capital Heating, Cooling & Electric so I thought I would give them a try instead of my regular HVAC company. On October 2, 2024, the Capital service tech, Colin, came out to tune up my 2 furnaces. As part of his work, Colin measured the CO2 in the exhaust pipe and said both furnaces were at dangerous levels and should not be operated until both the primary and secondary heat exchangers were replaced in each plus the burner for one of the units. The quote from Capital to do the repairs on the furnaces exceeded $5700. Colin said the CO2 on one of the furnaces exceeded 400ppm. Colin tried to sell me on the repairs and I told them I planned to get another opinion. I found Colin to be arrogant, obnoxious and very pushy. Seemed like he was under pressure to get me to do the repairs. Had to ask him to leave multiple times before he finally left. On October 14, 2024 I had an independent HVAC company, one I had not used before, in for a second opinion on the furnaces. The independent HVAC company measured the CO2 in the exhaust pipe for each furnace and found that the furnace that Capital told me was over 400ppm was at 27ppm and the other furnace was under 5ppm; also pulled the burner on the one furnace and said it didn't need to be replaced. Additionally, the tech for the independent HVAC company told me as the original owner of the furnaces the heat exchangers should be covered under warranty, which I was able to confirm. Capital failed to mention the warranty for the heat exchangers as well. Given this experience, I will never trust Capital to do any work for me in the future."

"I called Wisconsin Fuel on Sunday evening January 6th because I noticed my furnace was not running. The lady for the answering service asked me if I wanted an immediate service call which would be around $140 charge plus time and materials. I said no I could weather it out. I was surprised and delighted when I got a phone call a short time later from a technician. We tried a few trouble shooting things. I told him the furnace would engage for about 2 minutes after I turned it off and on. Sometime during the night the furnace started running again. I called Wisconsin Fuel back to tell them I still wanted them to come out but it wasn’t a no heat situation so they could take higher priority calls. The technician came out and gave my furnace a thorough going over but found nothing. The next night I noticed again that my furnace was not running. I called in the morning and another technician came out. He found the problem and explained the manufacturer of my particular furnace was known for this issue. It was water in a pressure switch. He cleared the water and recommended a new part. I asked how much the part was and he told me usually $25 to $100. I told him I would like the part replaced. Later that day I was called by someone from the office and told the part would be $122. I said ok. I was also told that the service call would be a continuation of service from the previous visits and would be in 15 minute increments. I said ok to that too. The technician was there in a few days and charged me for 30 minutes of time even though he was there for 10 minutes. I was told a service call was a minimum of 30 minutes. So, for not diagnosing the problem during the first service call and misrepresenting the cost of the final visit I would have to give them an average rating."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

Signs that your water heater needs replacing include rust or corrosion on the tank, persistent leaks, inconsistent heating, strange noises coming from the heater, decreased efficiency, and visible damage. Water heaters over 10 years old may also need to be replaced. However, in some cases, these issues can be fixed with a repair rather than a replacement, so make sure to consult a pro before investing in a new water heater.

If your system is not vented properly, you could experience what’s called backdrafting. Backdrafting is when your ventilation system isn’t working as it should, and instead of releasing gases outside, they get trapped inside your home.

Gas and propane water heaters create a few types of combustion gases, but the most dangerous is carbon monoxide. If there’s too much build-up of these gases inside your home, it can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.

The cost to replace a water heater depends on the type you choose (tank versus tankless) and the fuel type. You can expect to pay anywhere from $880 to $1,780 for a one-to-one replacement. If you’re switching from one type or energy source to another, labor costs will rise significantly for the extra amount of work.

Yes, this would be an appropriate choice. In order to comply with the National Electric Code’s rules, you'll need to install a circuit breaker that's 125% larger than the intended load. In this case, you'll multiply 30 amps by 1.25 to find the necessary breaker size. Plugging that equation in for your 30-amp water heater will leave you with a 37.6-amp breaker. If your current water heater keeps tripping the breaker, it might be time to talk to a plumber or electrician about upgrading your water heater's setup.

Converting a gas water heater to an electric one can cost between $870 and $4,100, depending on the installation scope, plumbing and electrical needs, and the water heater model. However, it’s always better to contact a local pro for a more accurate quote. Also, since natural gas is cheaper than electricity in most regions, you should prepare yourself for a higher monthly cost after the initial conversion.
