All projects are completed in this order: Edge grass to expose edge of asphalt creating a clean and crisp finished product. Remove weeds from cracks and spray with weed killer to prevent regrowth. Scrub off bird droppings to prevent bleed through. Clean asphalt with powered blower and powered broom. Dry up oil stains with torch and coat with Petro seal to prevent bleed through. Seal cracks with hot pour rubberized crack sealer. Apply 1 or 2 coats ( highly recommend 2 coats for our climate ) professional grade asphalt sealer either by hand ( brush not squeegee ) or spray. Close off end of driveway to traffic with caution tape. Please,please,please call me at 414-297-9704 and follow instructions for fastest response. The average lifespan of an asphalt driveway ranges from 15 to 30 years, while concrete driveways last between 20 and 30 years, depending on several factors. If your driveway is cracked, you can repave it with a process called asphalt overlay. Overlay is more cost-effective than a full replacement but is better suited for minor cracks and issues. If you have major cracks or other problems like water pooling, asphalt overlay isn’t your best bet. Plus, paving over a cracked driveway only extends the lifetime by about 10 years, whereas replacing it would start the clock over completely to give you up to 30 years.

An asphalt overlay or top coat costs between $3 and $7 per square foot. For a standard, single-car driveway that’s 10 feet wide and 20 feet long, that’s a total of between $600 and $1,400. For a two-car driveway, you’re looking at a total of between $1,200 and $3,000.

It’s best to weigh the pros and cons of each material and decide on your priorities for your driveway. Gravel won’t be an appropriate choice if your driveway experiences heavy traffic. You’ll find that you need to level and top it off regularly, which could make the material a much more expensive option.

Asphalt driveways are affordable and able to withstand sub-zero temperatures. The asphalt surface makes it easy to plow snow, and it has excellent traction for slippery winter days. Another benefit: it absorbs heat from the sun and can then help to melt snow and ice more quickly than other surfaces.
