Small jobs welcome

"We had an install of a Tesla charger and an upgrade to our electrical box to 220 plus some other miscellaneous items. Joe and team were able to use existing materials to save us a lot over three other quotes we received. The work passed all codes with no effort on our part. After the team left you would never know they had been there everything was clean and orderly. Will definitely hire again for future projects."

"I was in a time crunch due to selling my house and repeat inspection. I had called at least ten electricians/contractors and this company is the ONLY company that followed through. Martin had arrived and promptly started working and then his partner even came to finish our house on the weekend. I cannot recommend this company enough. Great service and price, so thankful for them."

"I can't imagine things going any better than they did. When I first called, the owner answered the phone and I gave him a quick overview of what needed to be done. He came over a couple of hours later to review the job and gave me an estimate. Once I had the cook top, I called to schedule the work and only had to wait a couple of days to get the work done. The electrician arrived on time, completed the work and cleaned up nicely. He was really good about explaining exactly what he was going to do and made sure that I had his cell number in case I had any follow up questions. These guys are now my go to electrical contractor."

"Paul called me within two hours of submitting a service ticket. He listened to the issue I described and gave me a service date within 7 business days. Upon arrival, he identified incorrect wiring in regards to three pole switches. At my request, he made the outlet "hot" all the time and non-dependent upon the master and companion dimmer switches. He was able to access a junction box in our attic to re-purpose the existing wiring and was completed with all work in approximately two hours. He was kind enough to spend fifteen minutes providing free quotes/estimations for a couple other electrical projects that I've been thinking of (i.e. - piping more outlets in my garage, installation of a ventilation fan in a bathroom, etc). 10/10 would recommend for electrical work, I'll definitely be calling him again. I originally booked the first electrician that got back to me through Angie's List, but had to go with North Shore Electric because I was getting a Master Electrician at half the price. Paul is well worth the time and expense!"

Customers say: Quality work

"Tim was great at communicating with me throughout the discussion of what we were looking to achieve & when the project was able to be scheduled. Kevin arrived for the job just as planned & he communicated about the project terrifically, just as Tim had, all throughout the project progression throughout the morning. He had the job completed in three hours & it turned out beautifully!! We are extremely pleased with our new wafer lights that have replaced our old fluorescent kitchen light! We highly recommend Elite Electrical!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

An average, 400-square-foot electric heated driveways consume approximately $3 per hour in terms of electricity. The price may slightly fluctuate depending on your local energy cost. A simple formula to calculate your heated driveway’s total wattage consumption is by multiplying the square footage by 50 watts and then dividing it by 1,000 to get the kilowatt number. Multiply that with your local energy cost per hour and there you have the hourly operating cost.

You shouldn’t hook up a solar panel directly to a battery. That can damage the solar battery and your appliances over time. Instead, install a charge controller between your solar panel and solar battery. Charge controllers regulate voltage, prevent overcharging, and minimize the amount of electrical current to protect your battery from voltage spikes.

Services by electricians can quickly get expensive, but there are a few ways you can save money in the process:

  • Bundle multiple jobs done at the same time to save on trip fees or flat fees for individual projects.

  • Get at least three quotes for service to find the best deal.

  • Buy fixtures, switches, outlets, and other materials beforehand to avoid product markup.

  • If you feel comfortable with it, have an apprentice or journeyman complete the work under the supervision of a master electrician. These electricians in training tend to charge less per project.

GFCI outlets should be clearly labeled with LINE and LOAD labels, with arrows leading to the proper terminals. The line terminals are typically at the top, and the load terminals are typically at the bottom.

How far you can run underground electric depends on the wire gauge (generally AWG) and the circuit voltage. Too much voltage drop in an electrical circuit can negatively affect performance, so the smaller the voltage drop, the better. Ideally, it shouldn't exceed 3%. The smaller the wire and the longer the run, the more significant the voltage drop.

For example, with a 120-volt circuit, you can run 60 feet of 12 AWG cable without losing more than 3% voltage. With a 240-volt circuit, you can run 120 feet of 12 AWG wire while maintaining a voltage drop of 3% or less.
