"I contacted Andy from Area Septic Installation Inc. because I was selling my house and the septic system did not pass the inspection. I normally contact 3 providers to get the best price. Andy was the only one to call me back and to come out to the house. Andy was very friendly, and provided me with great information and no hassle/pressure bid. Because I was selling the house there was a tight deadline on getting the work done. The time of year that I needed the work done is extremely busy and the weather did not cooperate. Andy also took time to explain to me some of the deceptive practices in this line of work and cautioned me not to become victimized. I thought that in and of itself was remarkable that he gave me this information so I would not become victimized. Andy showed up on the day he said he would be there, and got to work immediately. Andy knew that I was on a tight deadline to close and he worked long and extra hours to get the job done. His price was very reasonable for the work that needed to be done. Andy did everything to make this as easy as possible, and did a great job. When the work was completed Andy wanted me to come check the work to make sure it was up to my satisfaction before he left. Andy had the yard looking great back to its natural look. If you are in need of septic work I would strongly suggest calling Area Septic Installation Inc. for the work. Hard workers, Honest contractor, and fair pricing what more could you want. Jim Z."

"The technician emptied the freezer, which was in the basement, to work on the part that needed repair. Then he neglected to put anything back into the freezer, including a turkey I had bought for Christmas and a rack of ribs. Two days after he left, I went out of town for two weeks. The turkey actually exploded and spewed its liquid all over everything, which had to be discarded. I let AHS know and they couldn't even bother to call me or follow up on this. I'm considering not renewing my contract with them because of the quality (or lack thereof) of many of the providers they send."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

To keep your septic tank healthy, be careful of what you flush and be conservative with water usage, as even flushing too much water down the drain can throw off the septic system’s delicate balance. Never flush anything but human waste and toilet paper down your toilet, and be sure to have the tank inspected and pumped every two to five years, depending on the size of your household and your water usage.

If there’s a problem with your sewage system, you might notice water pooling on the ground around the tank, which could indicate an overflow. Clogged and sluggish drains or foul smells coming from your plumbing are also signs that there might be a blockage in your septic system.

Septic tanks and cesspits are both types of sewage and wastewater systems, but they differ in key ways. The main difference between the two systems is that septic tanks separate sewage from wastewater and allow the latter to flow into a drainage field to filter and disperse into the soil. Cesspits don’t have outlets and instead, store sewage until it needs to be pumped by a professional.

A new water well pressure tank costs $300 to $500. If you choose to hire a plumber for the job, expect labor to cost $125 to $200. If the tank is difficult to access, labor will cost more. Diaphragm and bladder well pressure tanks have similar costs. One-compartment well pressure tanks are less costly, but they have a higher chance of waterlogging. Larger pressure tanks cost more and hold more water, but they don’t increase water pressure.

They can if they’re not installed correctly or if the caps or covers were dislodged by a lawn mower or other yard equipment. This is why it pays to hire a reputable septic tank company that’s experienced in septic tank installation and maintenance. You should also check caps and covers often to see that they’re in place and take measures to tighten or secure them, provided it is safe to do so.
