"The Roto-Rooter plumber was great and explained everything clearly. He fixed the issue and left everything neat and clean. The reason for the 4 star is they were supposed to call 30 mins before arrival. They showed up without calling and I had to rush home from work. The 4 stars is also due to sticker shock (no fault of the plumber). Original quote was $720 for a clogged drain. They knocked it down to $500 with only a 30 day warranty rather than 6 month. He found the clog at 35’ (10’ beyond my 25’ snake) in less than 20 mins. I now know I can get a 125’ power snake with all the different pipe size attachments for $300. I do appreciate the promptness of Roto Rooter, ease of scheduling, and fixing the issue right away, but I will invest in my own 100’ snake before spending $500 for 20 mins of labor (not including their travel). Thanks Roto Rooter for jumping on this and fixing the issue in less than 24 hours after contacting you."

"I hired this company to replace my laundry sink because the drain line between the trap and the basin was rusted out. They recommended a new sink, which was fine. When the plumber arrived, he told me there was unnecessary piping next to the sink, so he cut it out and capped it. However, after installing the new sink, it now drains extremely slowly — which was never an issue before. When I asked about the slow drain, they claimed my vent stack was clogged and insisted it had nothing to do with the pipes they removed. That seems like quite a coincidence to me, but okay. The bigger problem is that while the plumber was professional in some ways, he was not helpful and was very aggressive — even borderline threatening — toward my wife when she asked about a return trip to resolve the issue. That is absolutely unacceptable behavior."

Although cesspits may be necessary depending on your main sewage system access or nearby soil quality, they carry a few drawbacks. Cesspools require regular emptying and have relatively high maintenance and pumping costs. Modern septic tanks have two lids: one that covers the inlet where wastewater flows into the tank and one that covers the outlet where the treated water flows out to the drain field. How deep your septic system needs to be into the ground depends on several factors. In extremely cold environments, the tank needs to rest below the maximum frost line, which can be up to six or eight feet deep. The standard burying depth for most systems is between a few inches and four feet below ground level. Depth can also depend on the slope of the landscaping and other property variables.
