"From start to finish, Integrity Roofing was truly professional. Our estimator Sean was fair and right on point with his estimate leaving nothing out. We continued to have questions about adding solar tubes and he was quick to respond. The roofing team led by Alex with Jose onsite were unbelievably fast, efficient, and professional. I have gotten numerous compliments from neighbors. I would highly recommend Integrity Roofing....."

"I was looking for quality work, skilled experienced workers, at a reasonable price. I found Atlas Roofing while interviewing 5 roofing companies. I chose Atlas Roofing, originally located in Long Beach. Berry not only took the time to explain materials and confirm that all underlayment would comply with warranty specifications, but he demonstrated honesty by not trying to oversell me. (good quality material vs good quality 3D aesthetically pleasing). The job was completed on time, work was done in a very clean and professional manner and it was an overall incredibly positive experience. Neighbors have complimented the job and the roof. I appreciate that Berry kept to the contracted schedule and payments were made incrementally after work was being done. I would definitely recommend Atlas Roofing."

"Excellent job and customer service. Worked with Will Ytsma at RoofSmart to find the best roofing options for my budget. He did a great job narrowing down the roofing options to best meet my needs. Andrew, Omar and Pedro all helped to keep the project moving forward. They removed the old torch down roof with built in gutters (terrible 1960s design for Seattle area) and installed a new asphalt shingle roof with ice and water underlayment and new gutters and downspouts. Looks great and will last decades. No more worries about the old roof and maintenance. I highly recommend RoofSmart for service, professionalism and overall value. They do the job right!"

"Northern Pacific Exteriors did an outstanding job repairing, replacing my roof, and skylights. Starting with there “low pressure” sales representative that answered all my questions. Secondly, the staff kept in contact with me on were I was in there back log of the jobs in front of me. They made sure we were all on the “same page” of all I wanted for the roof, and if I had any changes to the contract. Lastly, the crew completed the roof replacement in an expedient time, and quality workmanship was top priority. All the crew were professional, polite, and always had a moment to answer any question that I would have for them. The foreman was also outstanding, any concern I had about my roof he kindly would take the time to talk it over with me, and pretty much follow through with any request that I had. Rain gutter crew was did the same quality of work as the roofers."

"The entire Team Roofing Northwest experience was fantastic. They were able to give us a quick and extremely fair estimate on replacing our roof. We had a few other quotes but none of them were nearly as competitive. We had two layers of shingles on our house that needed to be removed along with some damage to the sheeting and soffits. We saved thousands by choosing Team Roofing and the workmanship was phenomenal. The install time was extremely professional and cleanup was perfect. This decision is one that is made once every 25 years - if you need a roofing contractor, call Brandon at Team Roofing for the best service in the Puget Sound."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

If you’re choosing between a roof overlay and a tear-off, opt for a tear-off and full roof replacement instead of a roof overlay if possible. The cost savings from an overlay can easily be eclipsed by repair costs, the effects of structural damage from the additional weight, and needing to replace your roof sooner than expected. A full replacement will last longer and is less likely to need damage repaired over time.

While you technically can add a roof over shakes or shingles, it’s not a good idea. Roofing over existing roofing creates a moisture barrier underneath the new roof and since the trapped material is wood, you can expect a moisture problem. While you could get away with installing a new roof over asphalt or steel, wooden roofs should be removed, new underlayment installed, and the new roof installed over that. Also, the extra weight would add strain to your roof structure.

While the terms are often used interchangeably, wood shakes and wood shingles have notable differences, primarily in their manufacturing and appearance. Wood shingles are machine-cut on both sides, resulting in a smooth, thin, and uniform product. In contrast, wood shakes are typically hand-split or sawed on only one side, giving them a more textured, natural, and rustic appearance. Due to these manufacturing differences, shakes are generally thicker, heavier, and less uniform than shingles. They are also more expensive. Homeowners seeking a more rustic aesthetic often choose shakes, while those preferring a more uniform look may opt for shingles. Both are installed in an overlapping pattern to create a durable, weather-resistant roof.

Whether you should choose a flat roof or a sloped roof depends on your particular situation. Flat roofs tend to be less expensive to install. However, sloped roofs have longer lifespans and stand up better to heavy snow and other inclement weather.

Keep in mind that even a flat roof needs to have a slight slope, usually around 1/2 inch for every foot. If it is completely flat, water will pool and cause damage, either from weight or leakage or rot.

TPO roofing can last anywhere from 15 to 30 years, or an average of 22 years, but you can extend its life expectancy through proper roof maintenance. For the best chance at realizing the longest life span possible, keep tree branches trimmed so they’re not in contact with the roofing material. Inspect your roof regularly and repair any damage immediately.
