"Received 4 quotes. Cummings was the least expensive that I used to bargain two others to. They matched but had install dates of 30 days. Cummings had their electricians and HVAC guys here in 8 days. Installation done in 4 hours. All had good customer service & tech skills."

Small jobs welcome

"Post Results was very responsive when we reached out, asking very specific questions to help understand our project. They came out, provided a thorough analysis of both our existing HVAC ducting in our craw space and provided helpful input on the new section of HVAC ducting we needed installed. They provided a quote quickly at a fair price. They installed the system the day we were scheduled, and exceeded our expectations on cleanliness of the work area and quality of install. We would definitely recommend them to others."

"Ron, the owner was fantastic, punctual, friendly, and helpful! Before we moved in, we wanted to get our air ducts cleaned. Ron answered all of my questions on the phone and was very helpful in explaining the work he would do and was very straightforward with pricing. Ron charged a flat rate that also included dryer vent cleaning and a sanitizing treatment. We didn't plan on getting our dryer vents cleaned but after seeing how much gunk he pulled out, we were so grateful he did it! It probably saved us from a fire. He showed up early, worked very quickly and was gave us some really valuable tips on how to clean out our furnace and do annual maintenance to upkeep our system better. Highly recommend. Thank you!!"

"We have recently started using Harts for all of our plumbing needs and have been very pleased with the work and professionalism! The guys are all extremely courteous, communicative, and respectful and we trust them to be in our home. Matthew came out to address a smell coming from our sump pump and identified that the lid needed to be replaced. Easy fix. While he was there he checked the pump to ensure it was operating properly and assured me that everything else looked good. He said he would promptly fix the issue and gave me his card in the event I had any further questions. We signed up for their annual maintenance plan and we love being able to call them for any concerns we have, at no charge, and with priority scheduling! We have cancelled our home service warranty now that we have the Harts plan, as they cover plumbing, electrical, and will soon have HVAC services. Yes, I know that their prices might be a tad higher than others (although our jobs have been in line with other quotes) but it pays for their extensive training, warranty, knowledge, and great and responsive customer service. You get what you pay for and we are at the point in our life where we are ready to pay for quality and peace of mind."

"You wont find a better HVAC guy anywhere. He is knowledgeable, understanding, and makes sure his customers get what they want and need. I appreciate that he takes the time to give people options. He installed a heat pump for my mother and was kind enough to make sure she knew how to operate it. He even taught her how to take care of the filters, and offered to schedule a maintenance to make sure it stayed in good working order. This is a company that will show up on a weekend or after hours on a no heat call to take care of his customers. Alex is amazing."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Replacing an HVAC system does not always include new ductwork. The decision depends on the condition of your existing ducts. If they are in good shape, correctly sized for the new unit, and meet current standards, they can often be reused. However, if the ducts are damaged, poorly designed, or improperly sized, they will likely need to be replaced or upgraded to ensure the new system operates efficiently. An HVAC contractor will assess your ductwork and recommend the best course of action. Typically, ductwork is purchased separately, and a full replacement will add to the overall project cost.

No, heat pump maintenance needs are very similar to air conditioners, including keeping outdoor units clean, changing filters regularly, and occasionally scheduling a refrigerant check to see if any has leaked out. Heat pumps typically switch automatically between heating and cooling, so you don’t need to worry about manually changing them every season. However, since they are always on call, they can develop wear and tear faster than an air conditioner.

There are plenty of different not-so-great sounds to hear from your air conditioning unit, like squealing, grinding, water running, excessive gurgling, banging, and clanking. Each of these sounds can indicate a different malfunction with your unit, so it’s important to have a professional assess the problem before it gets worse.

It is possible to add air conditioning to an older home, but it can be very expensive to do so. Expect to pay anywhere from $6,000 to $17,000 or more for the ductwork and AC unit. You’ll also have to hack into the home’s walls and ceilings to add ductwork, which can impact the aesthetics of an old home.

You need to know the square footage of your home first. Multiply that number by 20, which will get you the BTUs (British Thermal Units) needed to cool your home efficiently. Homes up to 1,000 square feet usually need a 1.5-ton unit; homes 1,000 to 1,200 square feet usually need a 1.75-ton unit, and homes 1,200 to 1,400 square feet usually need a 1.9-ton unit. Talk to a local pro for more specific advice on your home.
