"Upland Construction built the house that we purchased six years ago. Phil and his crew won my complete trust. They worked hard, they were polite, and they were skilled. We are a local Whatcom County family run business who specializes in residential remodels and additions. No project is too big or too small. We can do anything from siding, decks, fences, to bathroom and kitchen remodels. We also do ADU's DADU's and can help facilitate the permitting process.

"Paul Burlingame (and team) constructed a basement garage and attached ADU on the side of our 100 year old house - no small feat at all. Initially we were a little guarded because of all the horror stories you hear about shiesty contractors, but our experience with Paul has been nothing but positive throughout the entire build. He has a keen attention to detail and values good quality work. For example, there were a couple crucial details that were not described by our engineer, and Paul worked hard to determine the right course of action. In the end, what he came up with was better than we could have imagined. Not only is he personable and a knowledgeable contractor, he has an eye for aesthetic which was a delight as we discussed design options, from trim details to pergola hardware. In the end, Paul and his team built us a stunning 800 sf 2 story ADU and 400 sf basement garage, that feels spacious and contemporary while beautifully tying together with the exterior of our existing 1920s Tudor Revival home. I can not recommend Burlingame Contracting enough! Thank you Paul!!"

My name is Rafe Maxwell, owner and operator of Symmetrix Finish Works. I am 33 years old, live and work in Bellingham and greater Whatcom county. I've worked in residential and commercial interior finishing positions since I was 19 years old. I've operated my own business for 10 years and been involved mainly with custom new construction homes since 2010. I've been a part of a voluminous amount work over the past 14 years and seen work done right, and wrong as well. I am dedicated to operating a business with clear and honest lines of communication to my clients to avoid the all too common pitfalls of client/contractor relationships. Should you select Symmetrix Finish Works for your project, expect timeliness, cleanliness, attentiveness, and most importantly, a high quality finish.

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

A few signs that you need a new door frame include:

  • The door no longer fits properly in its frame and sticks or scrapes.

  • You notice cracks, holes, or rotting.

  • You feel a draft coming from around the door when it’s closed.

  • You find yourself frequently needing to make repairs.

Yes, you can hang picture frames, shelves, and other items on Trusscore panels. For lightweight items (less than 30 pounds), the company recommends using adhesive strips rather than nails or screws. However, you’ll need to secure heavier objects to a stud in the wall. In these situations, Trusscore recommends cutting away the panel material and fastening the object to the stud with metal hardware.

By careful planning and reinforcement to maintain structural integrity.

The cost to frame a 2,000-square-foot house can fall anywhere between $14,000 and $32,000. This price can increase or decrease depending on what type of framing you choose, the quality of the materials, the project's complexity, and whether you decide to hire a professional to do the job.
