"Jerry was very enjoyable and professional in replacing a bent lead toilet connection which had leaked at the toilet. He replaced the old lead connection to the cast iron sewer pipe with modern ABS pipe and installed a flange to attach the new toilet to when the floor is completed."

"The professionals who came made a thorough assessment of what needed to be done. The job was split between the plumbing techs according to their expertise, and each part got completed satisfactorily. I appreciated their honesty regarding what could be fixed immediately and the estimate for a bigger sewer-related job in future. The charges are reasonable. SEATOWN seems like a very organized company, their call center staff is friendly/polite, they follow through on scheduling appts."

"Scott responded quickly to my need for help with a faulty toilet. He repaired it and stood by his work, insisting I call him if there was a problem Turned out the next day I discovered a tiny leak and he came out within the hour to fix the issue. He was friendly, knowledgeable, hard working, and I admire his integrity."

"Our daughter flushed apple slices down the toilet and we explained the reason for the call we told they would come out today but there was a $289 service call to have them come out. Andrew was early, wore a mask and fixed the issue in literally 10 minutes. The issue I have is paying $289 for a service call plus $139 for them to snake the toilet. I had a $50 off coupon from previous work so my total was $403. I’m sorry but the hourly rate is insane for the work that was completed."

"I went to their website and requested a quote to clean and seal my shower.  I gave dimensions and sent photos.  Sound Tile and Grout responded with a quote that was over twice what I expected but I'll admit I really didn't know what it would cost.  I needed the work done and after seeing their positive reviews on Angie's List I decided to bite-the-bullet and get it done.  I am very glad that I did.  Chad & Zack arrived on time and after letting me know what they were going to do they went right to work.  They were clean-cut, well mannered, and very professional.  High quality materials were used.  They did an outstanding job and I am very happy I spent the money.  My shower hasn't looked this good since it was new.  If you need the work done, go with Sound Tile & Grout."

"They chipped out concrete and created a trench in basement and lower level garage to install pressure relief system of liner, PVC pipe and drain rock.  Re-poured concrete.  Also replaced existing sump pump with new one.  They kept everything pretty clean and cleaned up after themselves.  I have had no further water problems since this work was done."

"I can?t say enough good things about Danny and his team! I was nervous about doing a full bathroom remodel, but Danny made the whole process easy and stress free. From the start, he listened to me and designed a beautiful bathroom tailored to my needs. One of my favorite features is the shower niche he suggested. It keeps everything neat and within reach. The new cabinets are also stunning and give me so much more storage than I had before. Danny was always patient, answered all my questions, and made sure every little detail was perfect. His crew was polite, tidy, and finished the job on time. I truly appreciate the care and attention to detail. I couldn?t be happier with my new bathroom! Thank you, Danny!"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Yes, a toilet, sink, and shower can share the same vent. This is a common installation method that can simplify plumbing and save space. However, there are important considerations. The vent and associated plumbing must be large enough to handle the demands of all fixtures without compromising the vent's effectiveness. Additionally, the toilet should always be located downstream of all other fixtures. Because requirements can vary and space might be limited, it is essential to check your local building and plumbing codes and consult with a qualified plumber to ensure the installation is done correctly.

Yes, you’ll need to replace your toilet’s wax seal any time you move the toilet. This is because movement of the toilet will break the seal, rendering the remaining wax useless. Thankfully, replacing a wax seal is fairly easy, and the seal itself only costs $2 to $10 at most home improvement stores.

When replacing a wax seal you typically also have to replace the closet bolts that secure the toilet to the flange. These are usually about 2.5" - 3" long and have to be cut once the toilet is secure. Cutting them usually makes them too short to reuse.

The toilet flange anchors to the subfloor, usually with wood screws or cement screws, but most of it should sit above floor level at full height. When a flange is flush with the subfloor or below it, it can lead to the creation of leak paths.

To drain a broken toilet, place towels or plastic sheeting around the base in case of splashing or overflowing. Next, shut off the toilet’s water supply, usually via a valve on the wall behind the toilet. Begin flushing the handle to remove as much water as possible from the tank and the bowl. Don’t flush the toilet if it’s clogged, though. From there, use a large sponge to soak up any remaining water and wring it over a bucket.

There are several ways to save money on a bathroom remodel through proper planning and savvy design strategies. To reduce costs, consider the following:

  • Purchase your own materials: Buy your own bathroom fixtures, hardware, and other materials to avoid contractor upcharges and delivery fees.

  • Shop smart for big-ticket items: Save on pricey items like tiles and tubs by shopping sales and at discount stores.

  • Avoid major layout changes: Keep plumbing in its current location. Opt to replace fixtures rather than moving them to avoid significant renovation work.

  • Focus on high-impact, low-cost updates: Make affordable but impactful smaller changes, such as upgrading hardware, installing new lighting, and adding stylish but economical accessories.

  • DIY where possible: Handle easier parts of the remodel yourself, like painting or installing light fixtures, to save on labor costs.

  • Time your remodel strategically: Consider remodeling in the spring, which tends to be a lower-demand time of year and may result in lower costs.
