"Jerry was very enjoyable and professional in replacing a bent lead toilet connection which had leaked at the toilet. He replaced the old lead connection to the cast iron sewer pipe with modern ABS pipe and installed a flange to attach the new toilet to when the floor is completed."

"The professionals who came made a thorough assessment of what needed to be done. The job was split between the plumbing techs according to their expertise, and each part got completed satisfactorily. I appreciated their honesty regarding what could be fixed immediately and the estimate for a bigger sewer-related job in future. The charges are reasonable. SEATOWN seems like a very organized company, their call center staff is friendly/polite, they follow through on scheduling appts."

"Scott responded quickly to my need for help with a faulty toilet. He repaired it and stood by his work, insisting I call him if there was a problem Turned out the next day I discovered a tiny leak and he came out within the hour to fix the issue. He was friendly, knowledgeable, hard working, and I admire his integrity."

"Jeremy, our journeyman plumber was very professional and knowledgeable. I think if some rookie or sophomore plumber encountered the slight uneven floor for the toilet install they may have backed out of the project but seeing Jeremy work his skills made the install a breeze. The angle stop valve replacement looked just as easy to install despite the old galvanized pipe that is over 70 years old can potentially be a challenge but he made great work of it."

"Our daughter flushed apple slices down the toilet and we explained the reason for the call we told they would come out today but there was a $289 service call to have them come out. Andrew was early, wore a mask and fixed the issue in literally 10 minutes. The issue I have is paying $289 for a service call plus $139 for them to snake the toilet. I had a $50 off coupon from previous work so my total was $403. I’m sorry but the hourly rate is insane for the work that was completed."

"I went to their website and requested a quote to clean and seal my shower.  I gave dimensions and sent photos.  Sound Tile and Grout responded with a quote that was over twice what I expected but I'll admit I really didn't know what it would cost.  I needed the work done and after seeing their positive reviews on Angie's List I decided to bite-the-bullet and get it done.  I am very glad that I did.  Chad & Zack arrived on time and after letting me know what they were going to do they went right to work.  They were clean-cut, well mannered, and very professional.  High quality materials were used.  They did an outstanding job and I am very happy I spent the money.  My shower hasn't looked this good since it was new.  If you need the work done, go with Sound Tile & Grout."

"The man who came to talk about what was needed was coherent and had a better idea, in my opinion, than the other company's guy who wanted to use a sump pump.  The PermaDry guy thought they could successfully use gravity into an already-existing sewer line, and this made more sense to me.  When the crew came they were focused and worked fast.  They seemed to know what they were doing.  They completed the addition of the foundation section without my having seen them do it, so I don't know if they put in the requisite re-bar or not, which still makes me a bit uncomfortable.  One guy on the crew didn't work as much as the others and did not seem engaged with the job.  He spoke English as his primary language.  All the other hard-working guys I believe were primarily Spanish-speaking, and so when I expressed anxiety about their washing their concrete equipment at the tap in the grassy yard, their assurances that everything was good did not feel like it was in the presence of full communication.  Later, I found that their washing had created a crust of concrete and gravel in perhaps a 30 square-foot area.  I worked on chopping it out and clearing up the gravel, but resented it having happened.  I complained to the company.  Someone came out and pretty much rectified it, they were responsive and seemed to take my concern seriously.  I also noticed that part of the basement did not dry out.  I was told to wait, to let the hydrolics of the situation sort out for awhile.  After a year I called the company back and the owner came out.  He looked at it and explained the situation to my satisfaction, and sent me some extra stuff that I can put over that one patch that wants to stay wet.  I haven't done it because it hasn't been that important to me.  I feel that the company has been responsive to my concerns.  I did not rate PermaDry as to price, as I don't recall how they shaped up with the competition two years ago when the work was done, and I don't really know how their price stacks up generally.  I marked down the professionalism because of what happened with the concrete washing in the yard."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Yes, a bathroom remodel is a worthwhile home improvement project that typically adds value to your home, offering a return on investment (ROI) between 60% and 70%. Potential buyers look closely at bathrooms and kitchens, as these are often the most expensive rooms to renovate. A modern, updated bathroom is more appealing and assures buyers that the plumbing, fixtures, and flooring have a long, useful life ahead. Beyond the financial return, a remodel can also greatly increase your day-to-day satisfaction by creating a more inviting, spa-like space. Even a basic refresh with new paint and accessories can make a significant difference.

Small bathroom renovation costs don’t have to break the bank. A $5,000 budget is realistic, provided you're not adding luxurious fittings or making complex layout changes. Changing the layout is the most costly aspect of renovating a bathroom. So if you keep the layout, do some of the job DIY (within your skillset), and use relatively affordable fixtures and accessories, you should be able to stay within your budget.

There are several ways to save money on a bathroom remodel through proper planning and savvy design strategies. To reduce costs, consider the following:

  • Purchase your own materials: Buy your own bathroom fixtures, hardware, and other materials to avoid contractor upcharges and delivery fees.

  • Shop smart for big-ticket items: Save on pricey items like tiles and tubs by shopping sales and at discount stores.

  • Avoid major layout changes: Keep plumbing in its current location. Opt to replace fixtures rather than moving them to avoid significant renovation work.

  • Focus on high-impact, low-cost updates: Make affordable but impactful smaller changes, such as upgrading hardware, installing new lighting, and adding stylish but economical accessories.

  • DIY where possible: Handle easier parts of the remodel yourself, like painting or installing light fixtures, to save on labor costs.

  • Time your remodel strategically: Consider remodeling in the spring, which tends to be a lower-demand time of year and may result in lower costs.

There are a few reasons why this could be the case. More than likely, your flapper is worn out and needs to be replaced. When it’s worn out, it lowers the water pressure during each flush leading to inefficient flushing. Luckily, replacing a toilet flapper is a simple repair that should only take about 30 minutes.

If your toilet is still leaking after replacing the toilet flapper, then you may not have installed the toilet flapper correctly. Double-check that you have placed the flapper over the overflow tube correctly, and check the flapper chain is at the right length. If your toilet is still leaking, then you may have another problem on hand. For example, you may need to replace the toilet wax ring or replace the toilet fill valve if your toilet is wobbly and leaking from around the base.
