"Let's add a + to the 5 stars, as Jeramie exceeded my expectations! I first retained Jeramie to do the kitchen backsplash in my almost hundred year old house. The challenge was retaining the existing tile backsplash at the gas range and incorporating some of the same (extra tiles I had saved) with new tiles of a different dimension. Jeramie did an excellent job installing an accent strip of the old tile that tied the whole look together. A couple of months later, I had Jeramie return to repair the original bathroom floor. We had both thought the broken tiles could be replaced, the floor cleaned and re-grouted. After working on a section, it was clear that the very old floor couldn't be salvaged and new tile should be installed. After checking the door clearance, how level the floor was and the placement of the radiator, Jeramie recommended installing new tile on top of the old. He had experience doing this and said it was the most efficient and cost effective way to go. A week later, I was thrilled to see the beautiful new floor which undoubtedly adds value to my home. When it came to fix my fireplace hearth floor, of course I called tried and true Jeramie. This was another challenging project. The original clay tiles at the edge of the hearth were broken. There were chunks missing and the overly thick grout was cracked and loose. Instead of just replacing the border, Jeramie checked the entire hearth and discovered that all the tiles were loose. He ripped everything up, reinstalled the best salvaged tiles with smaller grout lines that lined up with the new mosaic tile border. The border edge was then trimmed with wood that took care of a floor plank that was lifting on one side. In addition to the excellent work that Jeramie performed, he was a pleasure to work with. He communicates well, shows up when he says he will, quotes fairly, listens, problem solves and explains. In a prior life, I worked in an architectural firm, so I have a good sense of design, understand what can and can't be done, and am a stickler regarding details. Like I said at the start, Jeramie exceeded my expectations. I recommend him highly and intend to keep retaining him for future projects!"

"Yes, the job was well done and on time. We had a problem with the tile and grout in our walk-in shower. He explained what the problems were with the original installation and then cleaned the tile and replaced the grout. He also installed shower bars which will help us from falling in the shower. We highly recommend this gentleman."

"We called this company out to give us a bid on a tile backsplash and ended up having them put our sink and faucet in. They did a beautiful job and were extremely pleased with the outcome. They are also reasonably priced. We’ll definitely use them again."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

It’s possible to walk on a clay tile roof, but you run the risk of breaking or cracking the tiles if you’re not careful, so it’s best not to walk on it if you can avoid it. If you or a contractor needs roof access, be sure to distribute your weight evenly and step on the portions of tile that are also supported underneath, which depends on your tile design. Walking on any roofing material is inherently dangerous, so wear rubber-soled shoes and use safety equipment if you need to access your roof.

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.

The number of boxes of tile you need depends entirely on the amount of tile in each box or case. Different manufacturers package their tiles differently, and boxes contain different amounts of tile depending on the size, shape, and material. Often, the amount of area that a case will cover is listed in the product description. To calculate the number of boxes you need, take the total square feet of the space and divide it by the number of square feet the box will cover.

Yes, unfortunately, it is normal for wall and floor tiles to crack, especially when you drop heavy items on tiled floors or place heavy objects on them. Tiles are also more susceptible to cracking when ceramic tiles designed for walls are installed on floors, as these are often not strong enough to handle heavy loads from foot traffic and furniture. Similarly, tiles that are installed incorrectly, lack adequate subflooring, or have other installation problems are prone to cracking. To avoid these problems and the inevitable repair and replacement costs they bring, always hire a professional for tile work and follow best practices for installation.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.
