"They got us fixed up with a new boiler, but one of our radiators is no longer working. Their technicians arrived masked up, but did not stay masked up for the duration of the day."

"They found the issue fast; it required no repairs. Because I was paying a minimum service charge, I had them replace an outlet and some halogen lights above a bar. Service was fast and pleasant."

"Professional and courteous. They're not going to do you any favors but their service is solid. They fixed a leak on my Mitsubishi Mr. Slim ductless mini-split (a heater/ac wall unit). First, one of their techs came out to diagnose. He checked some stuff, found that there was no refrigerant and scheduled an LSR tech (leak, search and repair). Diagnosis: $215 The LSR tech came out, checked the system and found that there was a loose valve. He tightened it and checked the system and we were good to go. He evacuated the system and charged it with refrigerant. He also did maintenance on the outside unit. It looked pretty clean after he was done. Nitrogen Leak Check System (bubble test for leaks): $651 Repair Each Leak and test: $193 per fix Evacuate System: $432 Charge System with Refrigerant: $491 Subtotal: $1982 Yup, two thousand dollars. This is Seattle for you and not sunny Los Angeles. They probably could have taken off the fix charge but I get it. Either way, they fixed my system and I'm happy. I would recommend Greenwood based on their solid service and professionalism. If you're getting an AC unit fixed get quotes! I submitted requests for quotes after the diagnosis and out of the 5 or 6 companies that I contacted nobody would give me a quote and they wanted to send out their own tech to diagnose. But I already had a diagnosis. So I just went with Greenwood. I hope this helps someone out there. My AC is ice cold and I'm happy. Maybe it'll spit out popsicles!"

"I won't call any other heating or AC experts ever again. Twice now, I've had incomparable experiences. I had another highly reputed company come diagnose my failed furnace and provide an estimate, but AirPros' price for the same part and repair was much more reasonable and furnace repairs are not cheap, so the difference mattered significantly. AirPros also treated me like family. Go with this family business, you will be happy."

"Darrick came out when no one else could and went through my Furnace and Air conditioner. The furnace was fine but found a potential problem with the air conditioner and went out of his way to get the part and fix it right away. I am now looking at having them install a new Thermostat for me. I Highly recommend them and would use them for all my needs."

"John provided great service and got the job done! For sure, I would hire again. However, I rated a B because the total cost was not 1) what I was quoted and 2) was given to me after the service was done. This would not have changed the outcome (I would have said yes do it) but customers should be informed of what the cost will be before anything is fixed."

"G&S was my second ductless system bid. My townhouse neighbors use the roll around portable A/C units to cool isolated sections of their homes but I wanted a system that did it all. Initial consult with Jesse was thorough and professional. Follow up scheduling, payment planning and customer care by Dawn was equally professional and accommodating. Workers got here promptly on appointed day. Immediately assessed the workload and called backup. They got it all done between 8:30 and 4:30 which even amazed them. I had one refrigerant leak after 3 weeks. Technician was out here during 4-hour scheduled window and repaired leak. All is well and I'm freezing happily ever after.

Boiler Repair questions, answered by experts

Boilers are equipped with multiple safety features to ensure safe operation. These include pressure relief valves to prevent overpressure, temperature high-limit switches to avoid overheating, and flame failure safety devices in gas boilers to cut off the gas supply if the flame goes out unexpectedly. Low water cutoffs prevent operation with insufficient water levels, and pressure gauges help monitor pressure levels. Ventilation and flue systems prevent the buildup of harmful gasses. Boilers often feature error code systems for automatic shutdown during malfunctions and gas leak detection for safety. Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure these safety features function correctly.

Most home boilers will need an expansion tank. That’s because these boilers are closed-loop systems, where the water is trapped. An expansion tank is needed when the boiler heats the water and it expands, allowing air to condense in the tank to make room for the water. Other types of boilers don’t use an expansion tank, such as traditional steam boilers, but these aren’t as common. And hot water tanks may be able to use a pressure release valve instead. When in doubt, call in a pro to take a look.

Attempting DIY fixes can be dangerous. Regular boiler maintenance can help prevent overheating, so schedule professional servicing as a preventive measure. In an emergency, telling occupants to leave the house is a good idea. Then, you can turn off the boiler and the gas or fuel supply. Let it cool naturally, and check the thermostat's settings. Ensure there are no obstructions around the boiler for proper ventilation. Monitor the pressure gauge; if it's too high, bleed the radiators if necessary. During this time, bringing in professionals for troubleshooting is also smart.

If you have multiple radiators, start by bleeding a first-floor radiator that is farthest from the boiler. Work your way toward the boiler on the first floor before moving to the next floor, where you’ll again start by bleeding the radiator farthest from the boiler. Continue this pattern for radiators on each floor until they’ve all been bled.

Most HVAC service calls include diagnostic fees, which could include checking on a specific issue you’re experiencing or running through a routine inspection checklist. If you called for a particular problem, the service call will also include an estimate to fix the issue, including materials and labor. Depending on your HVAC technician and the service you requested, you might also get a general inspection of your system components to ensure everything is working as intended.
