David was on time and very professional. He spent an appropriate amount of time evaluating the 2 areas we had requested. He documented the inspection w/ photos, measurements, and sketches. He provided a verbal preliminary report and is to provide a written final report w/ specifications for the mods we are proposing. (Removing a wall upstairs and a post downstairs.) We were happy to hear that our mods were going to be less complicated than originally thought and consequently less expensive. We have the peace of mind that the proposed changes are structurally sound and will be done correctly.

I highly recommend Premiere Outdoor Structures.  They did an amazing job on my deck!  I wanted it to look good and last.  I elected to use Trex and spoke with several contractors.  I asked the contractors how they would secure the Trex to the existing structure.  Most answered that you install it the same as a regular deck, and they would face nail it.  A few said they screwed each board to the structure.  Many had not worked with Trex but were willing to learn.  I did not want them to get their education on my deck.

Randy took the time to walk me through the design and build phase of the project.  He showed me the difference between inexpensive pressure treated wood found at big box stores and the material that they use.  He showed me how the Trex boards are secured with special fasteners and the end boards would be secured with special screws that will be counter sunk and plugs made of the same material as the deck would be backfilled so no screw heads would be visible.  The deck design that he developed enabled better entry/egress to the house and fixed a couple of house/deck integration issues.  His team also fixed several weak points in the previous structure.  The builders were very professional, kept a neat work site, and at the end of each day thoroughly cleaned the work area.  The deck was built exactly to specifications, the craftsmanship and professionalism that his team displayed was wonderful.

There is a difference between someone that can build a deck versus the Premier Outdoor Structures Team.  From the quality of the materials, to the thoughtful design, detailed build, and complete clean-up these guys are FANTASTIC!!

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

A construction manager is particularly useful in the case of a large-scale build with custom design elements, so it’s usually worth it to hire one. They can help manage your budget, maintain quality control, oversee timelines, and navigate unexpected hurdles. While construction managers are pricey, they can actually save money in the long run by identifying cost-saving opportunities and ensuring the project stays within budget.

A freestanding brick wall that's only one brick thick can usually stand six to eight feet high. If you need a higher wall, it should be at least two bricks thick for adequate stability, and it might require a footing to support the added weight. Additionally, some areas have regulations and codes dictating how high a brick wall can be, so check with local code enforcers to ensure your proposed wall complies with any regulations.

If your home's foundation was damaged due to shifting soil, the same problem will reoccur unless you stabilize the structure by adding posts in the bedrock.

First, most contractors will have a structural engineer create a report and plan for your project to ensure it’s safe to cut into the load-bearing wall. The contractor will then excavate around the wall, if necessary, measure the opening—allowing for additional space to fit and level the door, and then cut the doorway out. They will likely install a steel lintel as a header over the door for support. Once the doorway is cut out, they’ll demolish the concrete using sledge hammers and masonry chisels, clean up the surrounding concrete, and seal around the door with masonry mortar.
