Small jobs welcome

"Had insulation removed from 50 year old house and new blown in insulation as well as sealing and venting that was needed. Was very satisfied with the work done and it was obvious this is a business with years of experience. The job was reasonably priced. I would highly recommend Four Seasons Insulation of Gloucester."

"I can't say enough about how well this went. We could not afford an encapsulation of our crawl space but were having humidity and water issues. Mark came out and was able to not only dry up the current water but he put a dehumidifier underneath that completely cleared up the humidity issue. He fixed our crawl space door as well so we have not had any further standing water issues. I have recommended him twice to others and they have been very happy."

"From the initial visit with the salesman to the production coordinators to the project managers to the boots on the ground (or roof) my experience with Home Genius Exteriors has been amazing! Tony, the Project Manager, is incredibly knowledgeable and personable. He took the time to walk me through every phase of my roof and siding replacement. He was very responsive, even during off-work hours. He addressed every concern I had and was thoughtful in his responses. He was very thorough when conducting inspections, identifying action items I didnâ t see, even if it meant additional work for his field crew at no extra cost. I canâ t say enough about the field crews for both my roof and siding replacements. They were incredible and they didnâ t treat my house as â just the next jobâ . They catered to my houseâ s needs, worked extremely efficiently, and did everything I asked of them. I would highly recommend Home Genius Exteriors for roof, siding, and gutter needs!"

"This is a copy of my email sent to them 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard back from them ? I wanted to share my feedback from my experience with The Drying Company. 1/ KNOWING YOUR PRODUCT The salesman assured me that they would be able to spray foam on existing insulation (Ceiling + Wall) because they have the best foam. When I asked him a second time, after another company told me that it would not work, he reassured me that it will work. So I signed with them. And when your technicians came on site, it did not work. BUMMER 2/ RECHARGING A LIFT => BEING EFFICIENT I provided a scissor lift for the technicians. And after working the whole day, they did not plug the lift in to recharge overnight. So when they arrived around 8 o'clock on Friday they could not work. 3/ CLEANING => DOING A NEAT JOB After the work was completed: The trash can was left full inside the warehouse. (See picture attached). The plastic protection was rolled up and dropped outside the warehouse alongside the dumpster (See picture attached). I have drops of spray foam on the drywall which was painted the week before they started the work & a BIG CHUNK above the restroom. (See picture attached). I am sorry but this is not acceptable. For a $35,000 job, I expected more professionalism. Even from the first day, when we had to unload your products from the truck, things were not as expected. I will not be recommending The Drying Company."
Unsealed porous foundation walls. Efflorescence has grown along the outside walls.
Plastic is laid out to protect the freshly pained walls and floor.
Open vents in the foundation walls allow outside air and moisture to infiltrate the crawl space, increasing the relative humidity and allowing mold spores to thrive inside.
Spray foam application in progress on warehouse walls.
The dirt floor is exposed, which will allow the moisture from the earth to rise uncontested into the crawl space, adding to the increase in relative humidity.

"Insulating a crawl space is incredibly expensive (especially for a space that hardly anybody ever sees or goes into), but they did a good job and it has helped in keeping the pipes warmer in winter and reducing damp feeling inside the house."

"I am so impressed with Sweetland's Heating and Cooling! They have done a lot of work here, and I highly recommend them. The owner Judy is wonderful to work with. She is knowledgeable, professional, and the customer service is top notch. Any time I have had an issue, it was addressed very quickly, Judy even came to fix a minor issue on a Saturday as soon as I called her. We have a yearly maintenance agreement with them, and the service technicians are wonderful too! Very respectful and professional, and they explain any issues that they find thoroughly. Carol is great, she makes scheduling the yearly maintenance visits a breeze! We got 3 other estimates in addition to Sweetland's when we needed to have our system and ductwork replaced, and we are grateful to have Sweetland's Heating and Cooling on our home maintenance team!"

"100% satisfied!! I called to make an appointment to replace ducting insulation and spoke with a wonderful receptionist who made me an appointment with Alex the same day. He gave me three estimates to choose the level of work we wanted. We decided to replace all existing trunks, lines and insulation with the addition of a crawl space encapsulation. When I signed the contract he promised the encapsulation would start the next morning, but the ducting would have to be performed after the holiday. To our joy, the crew showed up three days in a row (including Saturday) and knocked out all of the work! The home is cooler and the air quality has vastly improved since everything is clean and new. I highly recommend this company! We are so pleased! Thank you!!!!"

"Very impressed with the entire experience. Jake the sales rep, who was an installer, was very informative. Up front about every cost and gave equipment options. Emailed the quotes very quickly and even showed up on install day to lend a hand. The installers, Mike and Will, were very respectful showed up on time and went right to work. They were very respectful of the house and family. The equipment functions even better than I had expected and we are very pleased with all the work. Follow-up has been beyond expectations. The install was on Friday. I received 2 phone calls from Jake asking me how I felt the install was going and if I had any questions. Tuesday, the maintenance supervisor scheduled with me a follow-up visit so the technician can check everything again. Excellent communication and the people and equipment is top notch."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

If you have blown-in insulation, using an insulation vacuum will quickly and easily suck up all the insulation. Many come with built-in HEPA filters for added safety. While some people suggest breaking up large batts and feeding them into the vacuum, this can expose you to more fiberglass fibers. With batts and rolls, carefully removing them and placing them into garbage bags is a better process.

Open-cell foam insulation has a life span ranging between 15 to 25 years when well cared for. However, the material may degrade sooner in areas with high humidity or after prolonged water exposure. Proper installation and maintenance can maximize its longevity but requires close monitoring. Closed-cell foam insulation has a longer life span of 30 to 50 years.

The heat loss through a poorly insulated attic when you’re running your furnace or heat pump during cold weather can be as high as 25%. This means you could see significantly higher energy costs to make up for this heat loss. The cost of adding insulation to the attic may eventually pay for itself through lower energy bills. If you decide to add a radiant barrier too, the radiant barrier cost may also pay for itself over time.

The most affordable way to insulate behind unfinished walls is to install fiberglass batts or rolls. These total around $0.75 per linear foot, with the width matching the gaps between standard studs perfectly. However, it’s important to consider the R-value of your insulation and the climate in your area, as fiberglass insulation isn’t the best in terms of preventing heat transfer. Plus, the most affordable option may cost more on electricity bills over time. The most affordable way to insulate behind finished walls is to leave them up and use blown-in insulation to avoid drywall replacement.

Although it’s not required, air ventilation in a finished basement can help improve the air quality, prevent moisture and mold issues, keep musty odors away, and also maintain the air quality throughout the rest of your home. Proper ventilation will help maintain the value of your investment in finishing your basement. Try basement ventilation methods like installing vents or a dehumidifier for best results.
