"I am very satisfied with the work done by Worley’s. I had a new HVAC system installed to replace an 18 year old system that had quit working. The price was competitive but the warranty and included maintenance sold me. The technicians that came to install my system were punctual, polite and efficient. It did take a little longer than expected due to some material issues but I was kept informed of the progress and delays throughout the process and I appreciated the attention to detail rather than rushing the job. Overall, this was a very smooth and easy process and I would absolutely recommend them for your HVAC needs."

"I don't trust anyone else to service and repair my hvac units. TWICE another well known company misdiagnosed the problem completely. We called PLE, and not only did they accurately identify the problem, they were half the price. We fired the other guys. I won't ever call anyone else. Honest company, responsive and professional. "To begin with, I had called other companies to get an idea of the cost and time frame to expect. The best offer I got was for a month off and just slightly less expensive, so when I called Mr. Handyman and found out that they could send a technician the SAME day for just a few dollars more than the other two companies I was thrilled!!! The woman who answered the call was very cheerful, and explained the breakdown of the costs and the was we could use their service. Being charged by the hour allowed us the option of making a list of the things we needed done and we were told that if we had a long list, that the technician could stay as long as we needed! I was very impressed! I had never heard of such an option before! The companies I've used in the past charged by the hour and were available to come for whichever jobs I stated I needed on the phone only. I had never been offered an option to keep the technician for as long as I needed! WOW! JUST WOW!!!
Karl, the technician arrived and was just as wonderful as the young lady who answered the phone. He was a cheerful, knowledgeable, well informed, efficient, and very professional worker; and, (best of all), cleaned up what little mess he made on his own, (that is to say, he vacuumed the dust and dirt from the area he was working in as well as wiping up any little spots that needed to be wiped. This was a first for me! Usually, whenever someone has been out to work on my home, the mess was left for me! One wouldn't know that work had been done on our home at all!
Karl's work was excellent. I feel that he did a very good job and that I will never have problems with the door or the linoleum again.,

When all is said and done, I now know that Mr. Handyman of Richmond is the best handyman service I could hope to use and I will be returning to them from now on whenever I need the help of a handyman. I will be recommending Mr. Handyman of Richmond to my family, friends and neighbors from now on!
Thank you so much, all of you, for making what had been an unpleasant start of my day into a good day!

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

A one-stage air conditioner only has one setting, while a two-stage air conditioner has a high and low setting. A two-stage air conditioner costs between $500 and $2,500 more than a traditional air conditioner, but it has a longer lifespan and helps to increase energy efficiency. To make this decision, you should consider your energy needs and available budget.

Window AC units use a fair amount of electricity, but significantly less than central AC systems. Because they are more energy-efficient for cooling individual rooms or small spaces, their usage is comparatively low. On average, a window AC unit consumes between 500 and 1,400 watts, while a central AC system uses over 3,500 watts—meaning a window unit uses about one-third of the energy. This typically translates to a monthly running cost of $15 to $40, although this can vary depending on external factors.

A new HVAC system combines components to control indoor temperature and air quality. Features include a furnace or heat pump and an air conditioner or evaporator coil, depending on the climate requirements. It also involves a network of ductwork for air distribution, a thermostat for temperature regulation, and electrical connections. Air purifiers or humidifiers can be integrated to improve indoor air quality.

Choosing a unit with higher BTUs can use more electricity if the BTUs are more than what’s necessary for your room size. However, choosing an AC with BTUs that match the size of your room or house, your unit will cool your space efficiently. On the flip side, choosing a system with not enough BTUs can cause the system to work harder to try to cool the space, leading to more electricity consumption and higher energy bills.

During the summer, it’s best to set your AC to 78 degrees when you’re home and awake, according to the Department of Energy (DOE). For better energy efficiency, raise the temperature slightly to 85 degrees while you’re out of the house. The National Sleep Foundation advises lowering your thermostat to between 60 and 67 degrees when you’re asleep.
