"David and his team were by far one of the best contractors worked with to date. Both David and his team were consistently responsive, timely, efficient, courteous and diligent in assuring my satisfaction with every phase of the job -- and, affordable. After vetting several other vendors, the quote provided by David was the most cost-effective. Striking about David, the team and services provided; was that not only was the job affordable; but David demonstrated integrity and honesty; a not so commonplace find these days. Category: Masonry"

"LUX came out, gave us a proposal and fixed price and carefully spec'd out the work. They had a large hickory tree to work around and not damage; their workers were polite, hardworking, competent, and cleaned up daily. The project was finished within the time frames planned and within the affordable budget we'd set out. It was a difficult project due to the hillside they were working on, and the large old patio stones that had to be taken up carefully and then reset at the end of the project. We were VERY please with the planner, the foreman, the workers and the quality of the work overall. We would hire them again for foundation and stone work."

"What a true joy it has been to find a company like Lux Foundation Repairs that has such quality standards for their work. Alex Stieb is very professional in every way and treated the repairs to my home as if it were his own. He was very considerate of my needs and concerns. He took the time to explain the problems , yet he didn't try to pressure me into a lot of unnecessary repairs and work. They were able to save me a tremendous amount of money on the overall job. They started on time and worked efficiently in getting the job done in a timely manner. I couldn't ask for a better job on the foundation work they did. Having had worked in the real estate industry I know how important it it to have quality repairs for the foundation of your home. I am a very satisfied customer and would recommend this company to anyone who needs work done on their home. Alex went above and beyond in providing quality workmanship on this job."

Customers say: Quick response

"This company handled my son's house foundation problem with the care and professionalism that one could only hope for. They explained each step and the costs associated with it. They also did little extra things to make the repairs even better than the contract called for. Overall a very satisfying experience."

"Mike and his team did an excellent job! Our concrete stairs already had a sandstone overlay that needed to be taken off which was labor-intensive, then a slate overlay put on. We chose pavers for the walkway that leads to the driveway. Mike had excellent suggestion as to colors and patterns. We are very pleased with the work done."

"m in process of selling my house and I got dinged for what I originally thought were minor foundation cracks. I decided to have multiple companies come in and take a look at the issue. Company A came out and decided I needed a tier system costing 15K. I almost had a coronary. There were no signs that I had a major foundation issue so I found this a bit suspect. Next, I had Greg from NV Waterproofing come out do a visual inspection and take some measurements using his laser and level. In the end he told me I had normal settlement and to do nothing. Not even fill it b/c that way you can monitor it over time. I offered to pay them him for his time and he respectfully declined. I wish I had some work for him but I guess leaving a glowing review is the next best thing. I cant speak highly enough of Greg and NV. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy knowing their are good, honest business still out there."

"I was extremely satisfied with the professional conduct of this job. I had carefully designed the structure of the shed. It was important that all the dimensions of the slab be met accurately and that the 6 posts be placed precisely and perfectly vertical. They were. Working with Jaime was very satisfying as we had numerous discussions about details as the job progressed. I provided some large salvage planks from the old shed that could be used to build forms, and he provided several significant suggestions to improve the end result. The slab was on a slight slope. He provided much deeper concrete on the downhill side to anchor the slab and resist underwash. He provided a large footer under each post before the main concrete pour, because the posts were going to carry the entire weight of the roof. I would not have thought to do that. This is the value of hiring an experienced contractor. The shed has been completed and the first delivery of sawdust has been made. The slabs stood up to the significant weight of the delivery truck as can be seen in my pictures."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

You can use a regular drill to make pilot holes for gutter brackets in the wooden fascia board around the top of your house, but it’s not the best tool for brick. Instead, you’ll need a heavy-duty power tool like a hammer drill with a carbide tip bit.

Some older brick material is extremely hard, making it tough to create a hole. Rather than using a typical wood drill bit, always use a masonry drill bit when drilling into brick. For extremely hard brick, using a power drill with a hammer function may give you better results. The drill bit will heat up as it goes into the extremely hard brick, so you may need to stop after a few minutes and allow the bit to cool before starting to drill again.

Yes, it is normal to see some minor hairline cracks in brick or mortar over time, often due to natural foundation settling. However, not all cracks are harmless. You should be concerned and contact a masonry professional for an inspection if you notice cracks that are getting wider or longer, or if new ones keep appearing. Other serious warning signs that can indicate significant structural or foundation damage include large vertical cracks (especially those that widen as they go up), stair-step cracks, L-shaped cracks, and deep horizontal cracks. Factors like temperature changes, moisture, and structural loading can also cause cracks to form or worsen.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) recommends placing a mailbox 6 inches to 8 inches back from the curb. If your lot is unusual, speak with town authorities or the local post office to determine the correct placement.

The exact cost of bricks depends on the type and size of the bricks you use for your project. Generally, standard clay bricks cost between $350 and $850 for a thousand bricks, or an average of $550. Brick veneer costs around the same for materials but is easier to install than solid bricks, so you’ll save on labor by choosing this option.
