"Excellent workmanship, arrived on time, clean and very thorough work. Rigo explained that the concrete patch would not hold so he applied mortar. Hopefully the mortar will hold and not develop cracks."

Customers say: True professional

"Goldy Brick Construction did an excellent job installing a patio in my back yard and brick repair on my front steps. Very professional from quote to completion of the job. They arrived when they said they would in the afternoon to prep the area and arrived 1/2 early on the morning of the pour. They worked swiftly, and carefully and all of the work was completed in one day as they said it would be. I would certainly recommend them for any concrete and masonry work and would hire them again for any future work needed."

"In addition to our deck remodel project, we wanted a new stone patio to really finish out the back yard space and a concrete slab to provide a secure foundation for our new hot tub. Johnny, Ricardo, Fabian, and the entire Deck Envy team did an amazing job designing and delivering an amazing patio â turning our old, outdated back yard into a new functional and usable space. Deck Envy is a top-notch company for any deck, patio, and stone project â and we will not hesitate to recommend them to our neighbors, friends, and family. In working with Johnny on our patio/walkway design, Johnny did a fantastic job of offering ways we could take advantage of the natural rock formations in our backyard to lay out the patio to blend in with the free form shapes. Johnny developed a wonderful design that incorporated a space for our new hot tub that kept the natural, free form design look of the rest of the backyard. Johnny's team provided detailed drawings and images for our HOA approval process â and it was clear Deck Envy would be easy to work with, extremely reliable, and deliver an amazing stone patio/walkway. As with our deck remodel, project manager Ricardo did a fantastic job of securing the permits, communicating the requirements to the crew, and ensuring everything was done in a timely and quality manner. He did a great job of ensuring we were always up to speed on the status of the project and next steps. For the construction, Fabian and his crew did an amazing job building the stone walkway â exceeding our expectations with the finished project by even reassembling our old stone wall that had to be repositioned. Fabian and his crew ensured that the hot tub concrete slab was sound and able to withstand the hot tub weight â poured in a way to flow and connect to the new stone walkway. The overall look is absolutely stunning, and we couldnâ t be more pleased with our new backyard oasis."

"If you need any driveway, concrete, or masonry work, MJ Paving and Masonry should be your go-to people! They did an amazing job on my new driveway, at a great price, and Miley was even willing to fix some loose bricks from my front path as well as fill in some missing concrete at no extra cost. The communication was top notch and I felt like I was genuinely cared for as a customer, especially at the intial consultation. You won't regret it!"

"LUX came out, gave us a proposal and fixed price and carefully spec'd out the work. They had a large hickory tree to work around and not damage; their workers were polite, hardworking, competent, and cleaned up daily. The project was finished within the time frames planned and within the affordable budget we'd set out. It was a difficult project due to the hillside they were working on, and the large old patio stones that had to be taken up carefully and then reset at the end of the project. We were VERY please with the planner, the foreman, the workers and the quality of the work overall. We would hire them again for foundation and stone work."

"We hired Mr Benitez to replace a stone walkway. He not only replaced the stone, he shored up the concrete base, used thicker stone, and changed the design to make it less likely to break in the future. It’s significantly more stable and has a much better appearance. They got everything done quickly, when they said they would."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

In some cases, black stains on brick are caused by organic substances like algae and mold. However, it's more likely that the black spots you're noticing on your bricks come from carbon from vehicle exhaust or soot. Black stains can usually be removed by scrubbing the brick with a brush and masonry cleaner or power washing.

The difference between river rock and landscaping rocks is size, smoothness, and use. River rocks are smooth and flat, as if polished by water, and come in diameters between 1 and 8 inches. Landscape rock can vary in size from small pea gravel installations to car-sized boulders. However, landscaping and river rocks are interchangeable in many situations. River rock is best for pathways, walkways, garden bed mulch, water features, and planting accents, while small landscape rocks can serve as a walkway base, gravel playground areas, and filler between pavers.

Yes, concrete is significantly stronger than masonry, especially if the concrete pour includes reinforcements, like steel rebar. Concrete is a uniform material that can withstand compression, sheer force, and tensile force as long as it’s reinforced. Masonry involves the use of mortar or grout to connect individual building materials, like brick, stone, or tile. Mortar and grout are also reasonably strong and resist compression well, but they don’t come close to the strength of poured concrete.

Drilling into brick or mortar requires the use of a masonry drill bit. Masonry drill bits appear similar to standard drill bits except for the leading tip of the bit. The tip has a bulky carbide arrow-shaped end slightly larger than the rest of the bit shaft. Standard or high-speed drill bits designed for making holes in wood or metal don’t have the ruggedness or design shape you need to drill into brick. They may not go through the brick at all, and if they do, they’re more likely to overheat, crack, or dull before you finish drilling.

Masonry is an umbrella term that involves adhering individual building materials together using an adhesive, so many different things are considered masonry. These include constructing stone or brick walls or facades, installing stucco siding, installing backsplashes or tile floors, and even installing glass block windows, in some cases. Masonry materials include natural stone, clay bricks, concrete bricks, glass blocks, and tiles.
