"I was so impressed with Wilber and his employees that in addition to painting our deck, I also hired him to pressure wash our deck and fence, replace the lattice on our pergola, as well as perform some other minor wood work. His responsiveness, quality of work and price were all excellent and would be hard to match. I have already referred him to several others in our neighborhood and look forward to hiring him again in the future!"

"Everything went better than could ever have been expected. Ray Gibbs himself was on the job to supervise especially in the beginning and in the end but also several times before his crew had finished.  He was involved in all aspects on the job.  His crew was excellent, they always arrived on time and cleaned up afterwards. they were professional and pleasant to work with.  I have no complaints and would highly recommend them.  I could not be happier with the paint job.  We had several highly rated painters from Angie's list give us estimates.  Gibbs painting was at the lower end and was recommended to me by my decorator. I will use them again once I have the energy to continue painting the upstairs.
The piece de resistance however are the built-in shelves. I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the unit.  It was designed by my decorator, however the real test was putting the simple picture with minimal direction  into a usable unit  The craftsmanship  is top notch and the unit itself makes a WOW statement. I just need the energy now to fill the shelves with artwork and books. Most importantly, Ray Gibbs was flexible and put up with several changes that I made as we went through this process, graciously. his croup worked up until Christmas Eve and Ray himself came back the day after Christmas to install the TV brackets.

"Had them come to do some interior painting for our home. Did get an estimate from another company and Pint the DMV was less by a significant margin. Unfortunately the week of our appointment there was heavy rain in the area which caused our project start date to move back 3 days however Steve let me know early in the week and I was able to accomodate without any issues. On the day of the project, they arrived on time. Their prepwork was perfect, no extra pain on the carpet or trim. We had them paint 3 bedrooms, kitchen, living, and family room (walls only) before we moved into a new home. End results looked great! They were even able to patch up a hole in the wall were the previous owners and run cables through. All in all, the wife and I were extremely happy with the end result. I anticipate calling them in spring for some more work (likely exterior/deck staining) and maybe another bedroom. Thank you."

"Very messy painters, seemed like someone who was taken off the street to paint. Paint splatters on floors. Painted deck, do not believe they used the amount of the pre paint solution I had bought and did not do two coats, I bought 2 gallons of deck paint from sherwin williams and they didnt even use one whole gallon, did not paint one of the deck post that was in the ground. Paint didnt even last through one summer, told owner and said he would be back in late spring (2016) to remain the deck, never saw them again."

"Craig Merrill and his team were a great pleasure to work with. Craig was very responsive and accommodating to my schedule. He first came out to measure the home, provided a quote, and facilitated a color consultation from Patricia, his wife and business partner. She helped me decide on neutral colors for the home, including the use of accent walls. She took my current and future needs into consideration and was very attentive to all my verbal and non-verbal cues regarding my conservative paint color preferences. Craig was willing to use any brand of paint I preferred, but did provide recommendations that already matched my paint preferences.
On the day of the scheduled paint job, a crew of approximately 8 painters arrived promptly and began working on our home. We spent the weekend before organizing some of our mess, or consolidating items to the center of each room, but I am confident that the crew would have helped us with anything we did not prep ahead of time. They moved furniture, removed paintings, mirrors, and wall decorations with ease, and covered all of our belongings for protection. The crew worked diligently and professionally throughout the day. They did tape some baseboards and wainscoting, but I was incredibly surprised and impressed with the steady hand of the painters that did not require tape. I cannot rave more about the quality of work that they performed in one day. They filled holes and sanded and painted for approximately 10-11 hours. At the end of the day, we only had 2 bathrooms left to be painted, though they had been prepped by the paint team. They came back at a time convenient for us a few days later and finished the job with 2 crew members. All team members were very professional and pleasant. They fixed cracks in our ceiling, and covered water leakage marks on two other bedroom ceilings. Craig and/or the project manager, Kyle, came to my townhouse on both days of painting and performed quality control checks and to see if there were any concerns.
I was very pleased with every step of the process from beginning to end. I mentioned my Angie's List membership on the day of the paint job, completely forgetting to mention it early on when we were given a price quote. Craig happily obliged to honor the discount associated with an Angie's List membership, solidifying my appreciation for his business. He and his team aim to please and I highly recommend his business to friends, family, and neighbors.

"Jeff met with me several times and made sure of every detail before starting the job. He and his dad and crew were great! They went above and beyond my expectations. They were able to start the job early and finished exactly when he said they would. They painted our house, garage, storage shed, stained the fence and deck. Terrific job! Many thanks!"

"We moved into a temporary home and the walls apparently had to been cleaned nor taken care of since the house was built. Also, the carpet in a few rooms were in such bad shape -we needed to get it painted prior to install ( last min & memorial day weekend) Juan responded immediately. He was out first thing to give a quote the next day. Hie and his team arrived Friday am to paint two bathrooms that needed a serious makeover and 2 bedrooms and were finished by a little after 1pm. The job: Amazing!!!! They went above and beyond with what was needed and we highly recommend."

"Five Star Painting of Loudoun - Not Only Painting! They have now completed several jobs at our home. The last was replacement and repair of our deck surfaces, plus staining. We were so happy to discover that they do this, since most companies want to build you a new deck. We then had them also stain our fence. So far, they've painted the exterior of our house - a great job, on time, exactly what we requested, with attention to detail, and a walk-through at the end to be sure we were satisfied. When we needed interior painting, we didn't even get quotes, we just went straight to them. Again, superior job, even to repair of drywall. We still have another interior job to complete. They have competitive quotes, and responsive, professional team members who do careful, exacting work. This is a company you can trust to do your painting and (basic) carpentry anytime!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Various kinds of substances and deck preservatives act as protective coatings for wood to prevent rot, which is caused by water getting into the wood and creating cracks and splits. Stains, paints, and sealants are the three best options to protect your wood, but there are also oils, varnishes, and waxes available. You’ll need to reapply sealant at least once per year, and you should inspect your wood deck regularly to look for signs of damage or general wear and tear.

The best time to paint your deck is when temperatures are neither too cold (below 60 degrees) nor too hot (above 85 degrees). Always paint your deck when there’s no risk of rain. For fast-drying paint like acrylic or latex, ensure your deck can dry for at least four hours. Oil-based paints take longer to dry and may require 48 hours to completely cure.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

No, you don't need to stain Ipe decking, although you can if you want to change the color. You will, however, need to apply a UV coating if you don't want the natural color to fade. Speak to a deck staining specialist near you to discuss the best options if you want to stain your decking. And remember that you’ll need to seal your Ipe wood deck annually to protect it from scratches and Mother Nature.

It is definitely worth sanding a deck to ensure the wood absorbs new stain. Sanding a deck removes the outer layers of aging wood, allowing the stain to penetrate. It also gives a fresh look to the entire surface as part of the deck refinishing process. Without sanding, your stain or sealant is less likely to absorb into the wood. While sanding a deck is a time-intensive project, the rewards are noticeable and long-lasting.
