"Wow! Not sure how to say it more...just wow! Edwin, Leo, and the Pena team are amazing. They painted the exterior and interior of my home. Took about 2-weeks which isn't bad for such a big job. They were pleasant, experienced, and went over and beyond my expectations. On the exterior of my home, they found rotten wood behind my chimney (which I never would have seen) and replaced the wood immediately. In the interior of my home, they moved heavy furniture to paint behind. Absolutely amazing! I chose wisely with Pena Brothers. I would hire them again without hesitation. I highly recommend Pena Brothers Construction. Thank you Edwin and team for a job well done. Extremely pleased with the outcome."

Customers say: Quick response

"Im very impressed with them and have already hired them for a second job and will definitely be working with them more. He came out and did a full walk-through of my house where I showed him each of the projects I need to get done, spent lots of time looking at everything and getting an idea of exactly what I wanted done. I got the best quote from these guys for a roof by longshot, and the roof is perfect. He communicates every step of the way, gets in there and gets the work done efficiently and does not leave you hanging about whats going on and when. Above and beyond all the other handymen Ive had out since I bought the house! Im having them do everything from here forward."

"They were very professional and experienced in staining our log home. Gave us the best of knowledge in what stain and clear coat to use for long life of our home. Very professional with their work and with me. They completely cleaned the entire area and also cleaned all of the exterior windows. I would highly recommend them for a job well done."

"Kenneth did a great job, and he finished it within three days of starting the job. He was very attentive to what areas of my home I needed work on, and hit every area of dry wall twice. He then sanded, and painted over the areas for me. Great experience, as he arrives within the time frame given, and does what he says he will do!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Painting a damaged pool deck is not recommended if the substrate is crumbling, cracking, spalling, or otherwise actively deteriorating. Continuing deterioration will result in the paint also delaminating or flaking off the damaged surface. Minor damage such as chips or hairline cracks that are not actively deteriorating can often be repaired enough to paint over. A damaged pool deck with a lot of cracking and deterioration should be replaced for best results.

It's okay to walk on a newly painted deck after about four to six hours as long as the weather has been dry. Be sure to wait at least 24 hours before you place any outdoor furniture or grills on a freshly painted deck, though.

Yes, staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan, typically by five to 10 years. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it can still fall victim to moisture, sun exposure, and rot over time. Applying a treatment creates a protective shield that helps prevent splintering, fading, and decay, preserving the wood's strength and appearance. A combination stain and sealer often provides the best protection, as it soaks into the wood grain rather than just sitting on top. This offers superior defense against UV damage and rot and lasts longer than a sealer alone. To maintain the wood's natural look, consider using a near-translucent stain. You should plan to reapply the stain or sealer every two to three years.

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.

The opposite is actually true: Wood stains tend to appear lighter when they’re fully dry. However, stains may darken as they weather and oxidize with age. Stains might also darken on surfaces left in direct sunlight, as UV rays can break down pigment particles and cause them to darken over time.
