"James came to my home to give me an estimate for my kitchen backsplash project, the time spent was very informative. He shared with me what materials would be needed for my project, confirmed where I could purchase them and answered my many questions. Tammy then scheduled my project within a two week period. During that time, she also answered my questions and assured me my backsplash, once completed, would look beautiful. John and Vito were the installers and arrived as scheduled. Actually, Tammy phoned and asked if I was available earlier than originally scheduled since the installers completed another project earlier than expected. John and Vito were very professional: they were respectful to me and my husband and of our home; they were very clean and courteous young men; they were knowledgeable about their craft and they thoroughly cleaned the work area when they completed the project. My husband and I are very pleased we hired Patriot Flooring to install our kitchen backsplash. Tammy was right, our kitchen backsplash is "beautiful!" Thank you James, Tammy, John and Vito!"

"

I purchased an Angie's deal for $ 349.00 for a tiled backsplash for a kitchen or tile a bathroom floor up to 40 sq. ft. Deal was suppose to include all labor & supplies. I chose to have a small kitchen backsplash tiled. First of all, Alex and his assistant were very professional and punctual. He contacted me right away with photos of past jobs and when he first appeared to see what needed to be done, he wore booties and used drop cloths so as not to damage the floors. Big plus! The work date was performed as stated and performed in one day! Another big plus!

The only negative comment I had was that when I told Alex what I needed to be done, he stated that he had run out of the tiles that the deal offered, so they would install a tile of my preference at no additional cost. I understood that any decorative tile or trim would be additional.  Alex recommended a 6x6 tile which I felt was too large for the area so I chose a simple 4x4 tile that I had to purchase myself and he said he would reimburse me for. Alex quoted 30 sq. ft but the job actually was 23 sq ft. Not a problem, since I could return the left over tiles for a credit from the store. But when Alex reimbursed me for the tiles purchased, I was disappointed that he only reimbursed me for $21. I found it hard to believe that one decorative tile installed and which I purchased, and 2 trim tiles installed could cost a difference of $40.00.

Overall, I was pleased with the quality of the work performed and the quality of the backsplash. Especially due to the fact, that day was one of the coldest on record and much of the tile cutting was performed outside!

Would I use A-Z Creative contractors again, Yes but maybe not buy a Angie's deal that states it includes supplies.

"All American Craftsman and Contracting did an excellent job with my gutter clean out and install. Got bids from other leaf gutter guard companies and there was no comparison. Ralph came over and was a complete straight shooter. Gave me a quote with no hassles. Other companies were way more pushy trying to use every sales tactic in the book. Ralph and All American were honest brokers throughout the whole process. The cleaning and install was scheduled in a one hour window. The day of the job the installer showed up on time, He was kind and honest. Did a great job and even thanked me for my military service. All American did a great job! Owned and operated by veterans!"

"The people that did the removal of the existing tile floor and installed the new laminate flooring in our kitchen damaged the dishwasher door and did nothing to contain the tremendous amount of dust that was generated while removing the tile floor which resulted in three rooms, half bath , and foyer were covered in dust. However, the new floor looks great."

"The floor was fantastic. The plaster work was behind schedule, so we had to rush the work to some degree because we were losing our current housing and needed to move in. The plaster work on the soffit was passable. The ceiling throughout the house is noticeably uneven. The ceiling was hastily primed, but I do not believe it was painted. Debris from the ceiling plaster remained throughout the house. The team doing the plaster work was unprofessional and messy. Mr. Wolak was professional and understanding. He acknowledged the poor quality of the ceiling work. He offered to have his crew return to correct it, but we had moved in and didn't want them back, so he waived the small remaining balance of our invoice. Hopefully Wolak doesn't use the same plaster crew in the future."

"Mr. Mike and his crew were very knowledgeable and experienced with the level of craftsmanship they've performed in my bathroom. We were extremely pleased with the design suggestions and were able to quickly make an informed decision on our tile pattern. His knowledge base on materials also assisted us with making a quick determination as to which products to purchase. Additionally, he identified subpar work and faulty material used by our previous contractor (3-D Unlimited). He gave us the true level of craftmanship that a LICENSED Contractor should have and was missing from the other contractor! His crew always remained professional while instilling a certain sense of pride when performing their work and the results were remarkable. I truly will be hiring Big Mike's Construction again for additional work needed on my home."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, unfortunately, it is normal for wall and floor tiles to crack, especially when you drop heavy items on tiled floors or place heavy objects on them. Tiles are also more susceptible to cracking when ceramic tiles designed for walls are installed on floors, as these are often not strong enough to handle heavy loads from foot traffic and furniture. Similarly, tiles that are installed incorrectly, lack adequate subflooring, or have other installation problems are prone to cracking. To avoid these problems and the inevitable repair and replacement costs they bring, always hire a professional for tile work and follow best practices for installation.

There are a few different tools you can use to score tiles. Manual tile cutters or tile scribes work well for scoring in straight lines. Tile nippers are one of the best options for scoring because they can make small and irregular cuts that larger tools may not be able to handle.

No, when done correctly, removing the tile shouldn’t damage the subfloor. However, if there was pre-existing damage to the subfloor from standard use or lack of maintenance, the subfloor may need repairs. For example, if the contractors notice mold growth on the subfloor or an uneven surface, you may need more extensive services before installing new tile.

If you DIY tile removal, remove the tiles one step at a time, individually removing the tile, grout, and mortar to prevent unnecessarily damaging the subfloor. Depending on the age of your home, consider having a professional inspect the subfloor to ensure it’s in good enough condition to lay new tile.

Yes, you can tile over existing tiles in a bathroom, but it is not always recommended. For this method to be successful, the original tile surface must be clean, flat, and free of damage such as cracks, unevenness, mold, or mildew. While tiling over existing tiles can save time and money, there are potential drawbacks. The new adhesive may not bond properly, and the process adds extra weight to the wall or floor. Additionally, the increased height of the surface could interfere with door clearances. For the best and most durable results, removing the old tiles before installing new ones is generally the better option.

Add a T-shaped spacer to each corner of a tile when placing it. You’ll want to nudge the tiles closer together so the spacers are touching each corner. When you’re done installing your tile, you can remove each spacer, wash them, and use them for your next project.
