Customers say: True professional

"Outstanding job, great customer service, great quality of work, great work ethic. It is so nice to have a contractor who does what they say they are going to do and shows up when they say they are going to show up. Phelps Construction removed and rebuilt my garage and they did an outstanding job. I highly recommend this company."

"They were on time and did a pretty good job. They also didn't waste a lot of time during preparation. The other end of that result is a couple paint spots reman on the floor. Everything else was very high quality."

"Aaron really was great.. he mounted my Tv in no time. Most wouldn't install it because it was over the fireplace in a nook, others charged an extra 200 just because it was a nook. I showed him a picture, and in no time it was up and leveled... I also tried to wire my thermostat and really messed it up bad.. he arrived and worked diligently to find the problem. He even went into my attic and found I blew a fuse.. Needless to say he installed a new one and my family now have heat again..Thanks Aaron.. Can't wait to see what you do with the Tile flooring Saturday...."

Removed a window Air Conditioner that was installed with no intention of being removed!  All went well, except they did not put down any protective covering on the rug in the area.  About 2 pints of old dirty water spilled out onto the rug, but they worked diligently to clean it up.  If you didn't know it had happened you would not notice it on the rug.

He tightened up some outdoor flood lights that had become loose. He checked the other set, just to make sure.  Also, he repaired a downspout that had detached.  A very clever repair that has worked perfectly since he did it.

Overall the work was completed satisfactorily.

"This was the first time that I used a contractor for a large (large to me) project.  Overall I was very pleased.  I had planned to obtain several quotes on the roof but in the end Jim Hicks was the only contractor to quote the work.  Jim showed up for the consultation with a drawing of the roof that detailed the roof?s pitch and size from aerial photographs available on the internet.  Jim needed our time for the consultation to find out if we had any special concerns and to view our house from the ground.  The use of technology by Jim Hicks as well as their qualification as a Certain Teed partner impressed me.  The quote for the basic roof installation was in line with what one of my neighbor?s was quoted earlier by another contractor.

I am very happy with the process and the results.  There really wasn?t a lot of time between when the roof was started and completed.   Jim Hicks was prompt in quoting the work and in starting and completing the job.  I was especially happy that everyone maintained control on the job site and cleaned up after themselves.

Justin Foreman stayed on top of our job kept me and my wife informed of the progress.  I was very happy to have someone explaining how they can go ahead and get started on our work due to revised scheduling and that work is already finished.
I plan to use Jim Hicks for future home improvement projects.

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

The rule tells you how to cut tile to install it in a corner. The 3/4/5 rule recommends that you should have 3 feet across on one straight line, four feet on the other perpendicular line, and 5 feet of length from the end of one of the lines to the other. You’re making a right triangle with the tile, and the hypotenuse (the line across from where the 3-foot lie and 4-foot line meet) should be 5 feet long.

Lack of durability is the most significant downside of painting tile. However, a painted tile backsplash doesn't see the same kind of action as, say, painted flooring tiles. For backsplashes, the durability of the finish is crucial because they often require cleaning. However, you can minimize the durability problem by using mild cleaners and water on the painted surfaces.

Installations typically take 1-3 days, depending on area size; repairs are usually completed sooner if the issue is localized.

It’s possible to walk on a clay tile roof, but you run the risk of breaking or cracking the tiles if you’re not careful, so it’s best not to walk on it if you can avoid it. If you or a contractor needs roof access, be sure to distribute your weight evenly and step on the portions of tile that are also supported underneath, which depends on your tile design. Walking on any roofing material is inherently dangerous, so wear rubber-soled shoes and use safety equipment if you need to access your roof.

The lifespan of tile flooring can vary significantly based on the material and maintenance. Generally, tile flooring can last anywhere from 10 to 30 years, but high-quality, well-maintained ceramic tile can last 75 to 100 years. To achieve a longer lifespan, you should clean the tiles and grout regularly, reseal the grout annually, keep the floor dry, and avoid placing extremely heavy items on it to prevent cracking. Choosing a high-quality tile (Grade 1) will also contribute to its longevity.
