"I originally requested 4 quotes for roofing contractors. I received 3 quotes for estimates with Sino-American being one of them. That very same day, in fact almost immediately, I received a call from Mason, the company owner, which both surprised and relieved me who expressed interest in bidding on the job. We agreed to schedule his company to conduct an estimate. Sino-American was one of three bids I received who landed exactly in the middle and within my price range and although there was one lower estimate there was something special about the interaction over the phone I had with Mason that made me know that his company was the right choice. Mason arrived in person and ahead of schedule for our meeting. Mason was incredibly knowledgeable about the work to be done on this 25 year old or so roof that was basically falling apart and thorough about every single detail of the project. He offered many options for me to choose, from materials to colors, and everything in between including his project management style. I was sold on our business arrangement. Sitting at my kitchen table Mason began discussing each elements and phase of the project line-by-line in detail I didn’t expect and at this point could really care less about because in just a few moments listening to Mason it no longer felt like a business arrangement. I was at home in my kitchen sitting across the table from a trusted and deeply feeling friend. And so it was! Mason’s amazing and kind and diligent team arrived always ahead of schedule (they have that down to a science!) and did everything that was intended in the time it was told to me. Every time I looked up, Mason was there personally supervising the project and emailing me with pictures sometimes twice a day on the status of the project. I know for certain I was not only his only client, but it never once felt that way to me. His communication is outstanding and if ever there was something that came up, and in my case always it was about something regarding what lied beneath the shingles, Mason would call me to discuss the issue, offer options and give my o.k. before proceeding. There was never any situation that might have arisen that was not already discussed and priced by Mason. There is no doubt that he knows his business. The roof replacement was completed on time and beautifully done better than I expected. Yet the work was done so well it out shined the house itself and not because it was a new roof but because you could see the passion Mason has in his work and the faith in his work product he instills in his team. It absolutely reflected in the precision and the detail. Needless to say, I asked Mason to join me back to my kitchen table where I presented ideas about immediately remodeling the outside of the house and changing the exterior. Mason was honest (and kind and gentle) enough to quiet my outlandish ideas about changing the exterior and instead offered cost effective options through changing a part of the front of my house from 2 windows and a useless door (that I could never understand why it was there in the first place when I purchased the house 7 years ago) to three beautiful windows, new siding, and painting that has turned my house into a traffic stopper! My neighbors have offered that it looks like a newly built house and it really does! I cannot over exaggerate how grateful I am to have met Mason and his team at Sino-American and can recommend his company without hesitation! This coming spring I will invite Mason back to my kitchen table to discuss the new projects we (yes, I said “we” - I can never use another contractor – ever!) are undertaking to transform the back of my house including a very large new window, more siding, paint and the transformation of my deck, which by the way I have had the estimate in hand since the first project was completed. "After finding Tillerman Gardens online and requesting an estimate for substantial hardscape/landscape work on our newly renovated house, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that Jesse, the owner, actually grew up in our neighborhood! On top of being a Takoma Park local, and an all around friendly, honest, business owner, we also came to learn that he does great work as well! His team completely transformed our hardscape areas, including installing a beautiful flagstone walkway and patio, a perfectly graded cement driveway, iron railings on our steps, and plants in a number of locations. On top of that, some of the work required some touch up and sealing and Jesse and his team have come out a couple of times later this spring to do that work unprompted. There's a little bit left, but I know they'll be around to finish it as they've taken care of us every step of the way. Even better, everything was done in budget. Look no further! These are your go to guys for all landscape/hardscape work in the area!"

"I have about 2 acres of wooded yard and fell hopelessly behind dealing with the leaves. So I contacted the folks at ACE for some help. The staff and service was great from start to finish.
They we friendly when I called to  set up the appointment and worked with me to accommodate my work schedule. And, they continued to to make sure I was in the loop when the two gentlemen came to do the work. Not only did they contacted me to tell me they were going to be a bit delayed - it turned out to be about an half-hour - because of some engine troubles, they also spent time with me when the arrived to find out what my expectations were and where I wanted them to focus their efforts. Afterwards, they gave me regular progress updates. Since they were hired at an hourly rate, they wanted to make sure that they completed the work  I needed done and that there were no unexpected surprises regarding the cost. Both of which, I very much appreciated.
Moreover, although the cost was a bit higher than I hoped, that was because I underestimated the scale of the job. In retrospect, the cost was very fair given  the herculean effort of the two gentlemen - unfortunately I can't recall their names - to clear up all of the leaves. They worked nonstop, methodically, and effectively, and were able to clean up the entire property. When they were done there wasn't so much as a leaf or branch left behind anywhere. I was amazed!
I can't say enough good things about the folks at ACE. I would hire them again in an instant and would recommend them to anyone who needs work done around the yard.

"Steve Norfolk and his crew dug down to the footing and applied the waterproof material a section at a time.  The original plan was to dig the entire area first and then apply the waterproof material all at the same time.  However daily torrential rains turned the area into a sea of mud, so he decided to do it a section at a time to minimize problems associated with the rain.  He had to break up a concrete slab (porch) for 1/2 the front, and approximately 25 feet of driveway next to the house.  Progress was slow due to the rain and mud, but Steve steadfastly pursued the completion of the job despite the setbacks.  Although justifiably discouraged by the rain and lack of progress, he exhibited a positive "can do" attitude and kept at it.  The finished product was professionally done.  Backfill and all concrete were properly completed, and grass seed applied.  Steve is a conscientious professional who knows his business and can be relied upon to do the work he says he will accomplish.  I would use him again in a heartbeat.

"Summary: Great service. Felt really confident in the knowledge and skills of the plumber. Work was quick and well done. Yet...paid out the nose, what seems in retrospect like a crazy high price that we're still trying to understand. Details; We moved into a house with a weird basement toilet-- an above-ground macerator (grinder) in a closet next to a Saniflo toilet, instead of a pipe to the sewer line. The grinder stopped working while renters were staying here, and we needed it fixed ASAP. Non-functioning toilet = non-functioning rental! Jiffy was super responsive on a Saturday morning. They're available 24/7 we're told! We got someone on the phone right away, which was not the case with other places we called. They had a guy out to the house in less than 3 hours to do an estimate. The plumber, Scott, had 8+ years of experience and suggested several options. My partner suggested a less-labor-intensive (and less expensive) option -- running pipe above ground to the sewer line instead of jackhammering into the concrete slab to lay pipe -- and Scott was happy to roll with that and make sure it would work well for us. He also assured us he could get it done same-day, which was great. No pressure. He quoted us $2k, flat fee. He left and we researched our options. In the meantime, the macerator spontaneously started working and cleared the clog, which meant it would not require anyone to pump out the toilet bowl or the pipe, which we expected would save him considerable labor and mess. We called the main number and asked about any change to the price and were politely rebuffed. A $2K quote was a $2k quote. We couldn't get anyone else to come give us an estimate in a timely manner and Jiffy has great reviews here, so we called Jiffy back and said we'd like to work with them. Scott came within an hour or two, after finishing a plumbing job at Lowe's. (We felt re-assured that even Lowe's trusts Jiffy with their plumbing!). Scott came in, removed the macerator, cut the metal sewer pipe, and connected the toilet to the sewer line with some PVC pipe and joints. He tested it with us, explained his work, and disposed of the used materials for us. All appreciated. In total, he was in and out in less than 4 hours. It was a great experience work-wise, and we don't mind at all to pay more for a very skilled, high-quality job that avoids sewage in our basement!! Still....we can't for the life of us figure out how that adds up to $2K, and felt a bit like we were easy marks as first-time home owners who clearly needed the service day-of. We didn't realize when he said he could "get it done today" that he meant it would only take 3-4 hours. That's $500/hr. Even if we doubled it to 8 hours of labor if we round up generously on the commute and time to buy materials, that's $250/hour. We're told $175/hr is standard, or up to $210 on the very high end. We also know from other DIY projects that the materials (PVC and joints) were inexpensive. I don't know if we paid for special expertise, or "emergency rates" or what. Again, we don't mind at all paying for quality, but we're stumped. Live and learn, but next time we'll be sure to ask how many hours it will probably take, and start our negotiations about price from there. Note: If anyone has information about pricing methods that would make sense out of this for us, we'd be open to that too, and I'd change the review to Yes, Would Hire Again. We'd want to hire again, for all the reasons above, but would hesitate because I don't feel great about a pricing strategy of "see what the customer will be willing to pay unwittingly, and go with that." :P p.s. Given the price, the 11% Angie's List membership discount was much appreciated!"
