"I've been trying to find an expert in insulation for months to come out and tell me out to properly insulate around a removed chimney and Comfenergy was the expert I needed. Even though the insulation part of the job was too small for Comfenergy (wasn't above their minimum quote value) they were happy to give me their expert advice and I appreciate the time spent as I now know what to ask the roofing contractor to do in order to insulate this correctly. Thanks!"

"I had multiple estimates and Fifth Fuel was the most professional and reasonable. Josh came to my house, took pictures of my attic and explained the different choices of insulating the attic. He provided an estimate in writing the same evening. The installers arrived on time, sent me photos of the before and after. They left the house clean with no debris. The result is a huge improvement in the temperature between the upstairs and down. I couldn’t be happier with them! Outstanding!! Thank you!"

"All the down spouts were aimed and the front yard and the water was washing the dirt wash away and making gullies. They buried all the downspouts. Then the made a cute stone rain garden. We've only had 2 small rains, but it seems to be working well. The workers were careful, professional and friendly. We were excited about the results."

"After our wonderful experience with TLG Tile redoing our master bathroom, we contacted them about turning our unfinished basement into a quilting/sewing studio, family room, and installing a finished bathroom. The owner, Todd, came to our home and we explored our ideas, we provided him a rough sketch of our vision, he took measurements, and we listened to his suggestions. We then went to TLG's showroom and worked with his wife on selecting tile for the bathroom, tile for in front of the walkout basement door, water faucet fixtures, cabinetry, and toilet. Todd then returned to our home with suggested modifications and options to our layout, incorporated some changes we had, and provided a price to perform the project. In the following weeks TLG secured the building permits while we cleared the basement space that was going to finish. We encountered a short delayed start (little over a week) when TLG realized that our home is within the Town of Herndon and permits needed to be obtained from the town instead of Fairfax County. That was not a problem to us as TLG was willing to work around our planned vacation. About 7 weeks after signing the contract TLG's crew started. In the first week framing and electrical wiring were performed, lights installed, part of the basement floor excavated where the toilet and shower drain were to go, and plumbing ran. The electrical team was super in running speaker wires for the surround sound system we plan to install, Ethernet cable for the smart TV, and installing several additional electrical outlets in the living space and utility room where the water heater, furnace, and extra refrigerator are located. After those areas passed electrical and plumbing inspections, the second week was devoted to installing insulation, drywalling and installing tile in the bathroom and in front of the walkout basement door. The man overseeing the painting gave us the amount of paint to purchase for the ceiling, trim, doors, and walls and stain for the banister. The third week involved painting and installing the banisters, doors, door hardware (we purchased separately), cabinetry, and bathroom fixtures. We are extremely pleased with the work performed by TLG and the responsiveness of their crew to our questions and requests. Problems were quickly resolved. For example, after the carpet was installed (not by TLG), doors into a closet wouldn't close due to the height of the carpet and one of the pocket doors was rubbing. TLG came back and fixed those issues. There was a delay in obtaining the final inspection due to the type of glue used for the bathroom sink, but TLG addressed to the satisfaction of the building inspector.
It has been about a month since TLG completed the work and overall we thoroughly enjoyed our experience with TLG, the quality of the work performed, and highly recommend them. Todd even sent a Thank You note appreciating our business."

"Very well. Workers arrived promptly and worked steadily. They inspected for mold in my basement, removed duct cover where mold was found, built a new cover, applied mold preventive to the whole basement, and did an awesome clean-up, including vacuuming the whole basement. I was pleased that the job was done well and finished in a day. One worker returned two days later to sand the drywall, which had needed time to dry completely. I appreciate how they explained everything they were doing."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

If you don’t have studs in the area where you want to install your TV mount, you may still be able to install a TV mount on drywall. The easiest way to install a mount on drywall is by using drywall anchors—but not just any plastic anchors. Choose molly bolts or toggle anchors, which have a weight capacity of around 50 pounds. For added support, consider pairing drywall anchors with a wall mounting plate. Extra heavy TVs may need to be mounted via the ceiling joists or beams.

This depends on how much plaster is applied and in how many layers, but a decent estimate is around 150 square feet. If you are applying only two coats on a small wall, there is a chance you may only need one or two gallons for the entire project. If you are plastering a large living room wall with high ceilings, using one of the more involved techniques–like Scagliola–that requires several coats, expect the project materials costs to add up quickly.

Regular dusting, occasional repainting, and avoiding harsh scrubbing preserve the finish.

Whether to repair or replace water-damaged plaster depends on the scale of the damage. For small, limited areas, you can often perform a repair yourself. If you choose to paint over small patches, ensure the surface is completely dry and apply a coat of antifungal primer first to prevent mold growth. However, simply painting or plastering over the damage is only a temporary solution that doesn't address the core problem. For more extensive or long-term damage, the plaster may be compromised, and there is a risk of mold. In these cases, it is recommended to remove the damaged section of plasterboard and replace it. You may consider hiring a professional for the repair, and it's worth noting that water damage is often covered by home insurance.

Yes, you can hammer a nail into a wall stud. But before you do, it’s important to confirm that you’re actually nailing into a stud—and not wiring, pipes, or ductwork. To check, find a few more studs in the wall, then measure to make sure they’re either 16 or 24 inches apart.
