"I asked several contractors to propose on a roof replacement for our private residence. Roofsfast sent Brady Fry, Director of Operations to look at the project and estimate the cost. Roofsfast offered the top-of-the-line roof replacement system at the best value including the fastest service in the shortest amount of time to complete the job. They left me with a beautiful new roof (this was a complicated job with nine dormers, steep angles, and very narrow spaces between four of the dormers) on time and exactly as estimated. Outstanding service with a professional crew and excellent clean-up! I highly recommend Roofsfast and would go to them first if I ever need another roof."

"I left a message on New Year's Eve. Dallas showed up on New Year's Day and provided me with options and provided a quote, including informing me that as a veteran, I was eligible for a rebate for the roof that I choose. He was very polite and professionally answered all my questions. New roof was installed four days later, by a hardworking crew who showed up on time and cleaned up before they left. I would definitely recommend Ask Zello Roofing for your roofing needs."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Homeowners insurance does not usually cover roof soft spot repair. Since this damage is usually caused by wear and tear and often found on aging roofs, your insurance claim will likely be rejected. If a soft spot develops due to damage from a storm, repairs may be covered, but in general, expect to pay out of pocket for soft spot repairs.

For homeowners who plan to stay in their homes for a long time or never want to have to deal with replacing a roof again, rubber roof shingles are likely worth the added investment amount over asphalt shingle varieties. While the initial cost of installing a rubber shingle roof will be significantly higher, their long life spans can be worth it in the long term. Consider the curb appeal of a rubber roof, though, as other roofing materials, like metal, can look better and offer even greater value.

If you’re choosing between a roof overlay and a tear-off, opt for a tear-off and full roof replacement instead of a roof overlay if possible. The cost savings from an overlay can easily be eclipsed by repair costs, the effects of structural damage from the additional weight, and needing to replace your roof sooner than expected. A full replacement will last longer and is less likely to need damage repaired over time.

Yes, removing a chimney is a difficult and major undertaking. Chimneys often provide structural support to a home, so if it's a load-bearing structure, you'll need to take extra precautions to maintain your home's integrity. A project of this complexity typically requires a structural engineer, a masonry contractor, and a demolition crew. The removal process may involve taking the chimney out brick by brick from inside the walls. The cost for chimney removal can range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on the job's complexity. Due to the difficulty and cost, some homeowners opt to remove the fireplace and seal the chimney at the top and bottom, sometimes also removing the visible exterior portion at the roofline.

Underlayment is required by building code, so any roof installed without it is technically against code. The underlayment acts as the second layer of defense against water, so installing a roof without underlayment means a much higher risk of roof leaks. You’ll have the best chance of avoiding roof leaks if you install drip edge flashing covered by underlayment, and then install your roofing material over that.
