Kellam Mechanical IncI have just recently moved into the area (Sept 2020) and purchased an older home that needs lots of updating. Not having experience with any vendors in the area, I called Kellam based on a referral. When I bought the home it had an ancient hot water radiator, a tempermental incorrectly installed geothermal system, a water heater from 1991, and lots of Harry Homeowner electrical "fixes". I asked Kellam for an estimate to remove all the old systems, install new gas/AC systems and a tankless hot water heater and clean up the electrical issues. I received a price that was competitive and gave them the work. Kellam did an excellent job with all of the work that I gave them. All through the process, I felt that they were here to solve my problems with whatever it takes instead of maximizing their bottom line. I'm the kind of guy that asks a million questions and in every case the techs were very patient with me and explained all of my questions to my satisfaction. My HVAC system works great, my home is comfortable and I have plenty of hot water. My wife and I are very pleased. In addition to a great installation, one other thing that I want to point out is the way they took care of my electrical issues. Lots of companies don't want to handle jobs like that because they can be difficult to properly correct. Kellam did not hesitate and they not only fixed the issues that I had found but also some others that I didn't know about. In summary if you want a company who acts more like your very competent friend than a soulless vendor, Kellam is your company. The owner, Scott Kellam, actively manages the business, is an old school stand up honest guy and he trains his staff to be the same way. If you use them, I think that you will be pleased.- Mark T.

This was an important repair for me to make sure there were no leaks in the duct system. The duct work and seals were nicely done.The owner of the company was very knowledgeable about different HVAC systems. I have been very satisfied with my new system so far. being in retail my whole life i dont often complain about a company or store. usually pick up my business and go some where else if not sastified. after having problems after each maintenance visit and the head of service admitiing it may have been there fault they actually dropped me. while they did make good and there errors i guess i was a problem customer to them. how many times can they come and within 2 or 3 days something goes wrong. maybe the problem is on the other foot.

Flawless. Joe was able to identify a problem with the wiring of my thermostat (Nest 3rd gen) from a previous repair by a larger HVAC company. A quick fix of the wiring error and I was back up and running. Joe ensured I wasn’t able to reproduce the over current problem before leaving, because the heat was working when he was troubleshooting in the attic. The extra step to see if I could reproduce the original fault helped him narrow it down to the thermostat. That proved to me how knowledgeable he was and his desire to ensure positively that the customer was taken care of. He was punctual and polite, offered advice where requested. While every other big HVAC company in Hampton Roads was a week out for appointments, Joe went out of his way to show up the same day. He’s earned my trust, and I’ll be a return customer for as long as I live in the area. Great service, and my highest possible recommendation.

We have had nothing but great experiences with this local trustworthy business. Their estimates are very fair and they won’t try to sell you unnecessary products or services. They offer duct replacement services (which a number of similar businesses don’t because it’s not glamorous work or a big money maker). This company feels it’s important to offer the whole package to ensure as much efficiency in your home as possible. The owners and their employees are very professional, polite and hardworking. Even the ladies answering the phone are very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The work they perform is excellent and I would highly recommend them to anyone have trouble with ac/heat/duct work or water heaters. They will give you an honest opinion and you’ll be happy you called them.

Was quoted a price over the phone last Thursday. I did speak with the employee who quoted me the price earlier today asking if we could reschedule with no discussion of change in price. Was called 5 minutes prior to the rep coming today and told price was going to increase by 200%. Spoke with the manager of plumbing, Robin, not raising my voice, and asked why they weren't going to honor the quoted price and he said the employee who quoted me the price was incorrect. After a little more conversation, I informed Robin that if they were going to honor the quoted price we'd love to speak with Jamal about an estimate. Robin ended up hanging up on me. Jamal never showed up. Husband left work early for this which impacted his work schedule.

We never heard from the Company & suspect there might have been a problem with the app or system? That is, we claimed the advertised deal for this Company (& messaged them) on 7/1/21 via the Angi app & received a confirmation from Angi that "Deal Claimed! We've shared your information with your service provider. R.A. Styron Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc." So, assigning a rating is virtually impossible, but was necessary in order to report this apparent glitch in the system. (We assigned a "3" since we're not sure what happened.) In any case, the Company never responded so was never hired, thus the question "Would you hire again?" is irrelevant; but we said "Yes" regardless, i.e. indicating we'd give them another chance. We located another HVAC company via "Yelp" which did a great job for us. (Had the Company been able to respond, they might have filled those shoes & received a similar 5-star rating.) At any rate, "Angi" staff might want to follow up on possible issues re: communicating and/or follow-up with their Pros, etc.
