Joe and his team provide Great Service! They came out on a Monday and we had a new unit installed and our home cooling again on Wednesday. They are honest, professional, and personable. We use them for all of our heating and cooling needs.

The job went great! I can't say enough good things about Joe Lawson and his associates at E.L. Sawyer Heating & Air Conditioning! Joe and his son installed two new HVAC systems, upstairs and downstairs, at my former home and I was so pleased I called them again to install a new HVAC system at my current home where the HVAC was almost 30 years old. He recommended the system with the best bang for the buck and educated me in how the new systems work more efficiently without spending an arm and a leg. Joe Jr. and Chase were on time, efficient, neat, polite and very considerate while spending two days in my home. The new HVAC is working perfectly! Flawless. Joe was able to identify a problem with the wiring of my thermostat (Nest 3rd gen) from a previous repair by a larger HVAC company. A quick fix of the wiring error and I was back up and running. Joe ensured I wasn’t able to reproduce the over current problem before leaving, because the heat was working when he was troubleshooting in the attic. The extra step to see if I could reproduce the original fault helped him narrow it down to the thermostat. That proved to me how knowledgeable he was and his desire to ensure positively that the customer was taken care of. He was punctual and polite, offered advice where requested. While every other big HVAC company in Hampton Roads was a week out for appointments, Joe went out of his way to show up the same day. He’s earned my trust, and I’ll be a return customer for as long as I live in the area. Great service, and my highest possible recommendation.

FANTASTIC!!!! If you need a reliable, efficient, knowledgeable, fair, great customer service company look no further than this family owned, well run business. Here is my story. I live in NC but have an elderly aunt who is battling cancer in Portsmouth, VA. She has dealt with another local company, R S Andrew's, for 15 years and has paid monthly to be on their service plan and part of their loyalty program. They put in a new HVAC system three years ago but have not serviced it since last winter even though she has the service contract. Her AC stopped working on a Tuesday night about 7pm during a heat wave. She called R S Andrew's after hours and was told they could not get there until Saturday. I called R S Andrew's the next day and explained she has a medical condition and I was not sure they were aware. They told me they were aware and Saturday was the best they could do. I immediately thought of Angie's list and found EL Sawyer and read the reviews. Called Thursday morning at 8:30am, Joe, the owner, answered the phone and I explained the situation. He jumped to help. He indicated he was extremely busy with the heat wave but given the issue he would send someone in the next two hours. His employee was there and had the clogged drain line fixed before 12pm. The drain line would not have been an issue if R S Andrew's had serviced the HVAC per the service agreement. Bottom line. Joe and his children who help run this family owned business were a GODSEND!!!! This is who one should contact FIRST!!! We plan to move the service contract to them. Obviously, they come running in case of an emergency even to those who are not current customers. They charged a very reasonable fee given the circumstances and speed they delivered. I could not be more pleased. JOE AND FAMILY....WELL DONE!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU'RE FAMILY. I look forward to working with you all for many years to come.

Wonderful!! Arrived less than 2 hours after call and work done in less than 1/2 hour. Very reasonable price. On the hottest day of the year - we were sure it would be major and we would have to go to a hotel. We appreciate this company so much!

With tears in my eyes...... I don't know where to begin. Joe, his son and the rest of the team are amazinggggg! These last couple of days were blazing with hot temperatures. Our system went completely out and we called our no good home warranty company hoping to get it fixed only to have nothing but disappointment, a headache, and added stress. But stress BE GONE when we got on the phone and called Joe and the team......... He came out and diagnosed us and his crew came the next day... He replaced our unit at the cost of next to nothing.….And not only were they on time, but very professional, knowledge, and polite..They had us up and running in no time!! I am happy, the kids are happy, and my husband is also happy he can come home from his construction job to a cool home. It is really hard to find people out here who want to help from the goodness of their heart. Our family can not thank you enough. I have been a customer of Sawyers Heating & Cooling for many years, so when my HVAC needed replacing I knew Joe Lawson & his team would be the ones I call.  They showed up 0830 and were done about 1230'ish. I have also had a water heater replaced by them, along with maintenance on my HVAC, and each time they did outstanding work.  They clean up after themselves and take the time to explain things of what they did. They are very professional and being a family-owned company, they stand behind the quality of their work and their costs are extremely reasonable compared to larger companies.  Big thumbs up - I highly recommend them for all your HVAC needs.

Joe was EXCELLENT! I requested him over the weekend and was ready to come help me out on Monday. I told him I had two prior HVAC companies tell me about my issue and quoted me pretty high prices. I went with Joe because I felt confident in his ability to fix my AC issue. He checked my outside unit then came inside, was very knowledgable and showed me what was going on. As it turned out, my AC issue was much smaller than previous companies told me. He fixed my issue in just a few minutes!! Joe's work is TOP QUALITY and very detailed, so if you have any issues with your HVAC unit, make sure you ask for Joe and EL Sawyer Heating/Cooling. Even if you have a bigger issue than mine, Joe is trustworthy and will get the job done. I cannot thank you enough, Joe and EL Sawyer!!

Joe took care of the problem on what he said was a very common problem and had it resolved within 20 minutes at my house. It wasn’t until I got the invoice that I found a $89 “Diagnose Fee” on top of the hourly service rate. This was never disclosed in advance nor at my house when I agreed to have the invoice emailed. I would not recommend this contractor to my family, friends or colleagues.

Joe and Tia are wonderful. Very professional and kind. They bent over backwards to find a heating solution that is efficient and financially made sense for me as a long-term owner and to get my tenants permanent heat in the dead of a very cold winter as quickly as possible. I was also able to arrange financing through Sawyer for this unexpected cost. Joe and his team were at the house two days after I signed the proposal and finished the three day job in one day! Thank you Joe and Tia! These are the kind of people that will go to ends to help someone.

Sawyer Heating & Air Conditioning promptly answered the phone. They requested some information over the phone and our location. They happened to have a truck close by and stated that could fit us into the schedule in about 30 minutes. Almost to the second, they pulled up and diagnosed the issue within a couple of minutes. They had the parts on their van and repaired the unit pretty quickly. As they were waiting to ensure the broken unit was working, they didn't stand around and took that time to review both of our systems. They completed some preventative maintenance on the second unit. In reviewing the bill, the parts were very reasonably priced (as compared to price gouging we experienced with another company many years prior). They also applied the coupons from the website. I also appreciated that they took the time to explain what they were doing throughout the troubleshooting and repair process. In short, they were responsive, professional, and trustworthy.

Great experience - and trust me, I am incredibly wary of contractors after a prior bad experience. The entire process, from start to finish, exceeded my expectations.

E.L Sawyer had previously done some work for me so it was an easy decision who I was going to call to help me out again. From the time I called Joe to the time that my system had been replaced and up and running, I was able to have heat in my house before my family arrived. Joe and his team are always courteous and responsive to our needs and the needs of all of their customers. The day before Thanksgiving, I had a problem with my hot water heater and he sent someone out that day to take a look at the problem. Issue was fixed. Awesome!! They got to my house within 20min of contacting them. Very friendly, courteous and very professional but also down to earth in helping me understand what they were doing.
Performed a diagnosis and related me information on what was wrong.
Got a new motor and replaced it faster than I could make a cup of coffee.
Also checked the rest of the unit/heat pump to make sure everything else was working.
Would recommend Sawyer heating/air conditioning to everyone!!! Absolutely great!!
