"This service was provided to our daughter who resides in West Valley City. I simply sought out a reliable plumbing company to assist her.  She used Manwell and their work was fine with only concern being that it did require two trips in order to install new fawcett. The company promised her it would be the same employee but wasn't. No big deal as they did the work with no problems."

"Gabe, our installer called the day before to introduce himself and to let us know what time he would be arriving the next day. Gabe arrived on time and installed the whole house water softener and filtration unit. Gabe did a wonderful job on the install and explained everything to us, there were no issues whatsoever. Gabe and Superior Water and Air Inc both get 5+ stars! Thanks Gabe!!"

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

In most cases, standard homeowners insurance policies do not cover damage from a sump pump failure or overflow. Coverage for water damage is often limited to sudden, unexpected events like a burst pipe that was not caused by negligence. To be covered for sump pump issues, you will likely need to purchase a specific rider, endorsement, or additional water backup insurance. If your insurer offers this type of coverage, they may require proof that your sump pump is regularly maintained.

Yes, many modern water pumps are designed with energy efficiency in mind. Look for pumps with high efficiency ratings or those with an Energy Star certification. These pumps consume less power and can reduce your utility bills. Additionally, variable-speed pumps are more efficient since they can adjust the flow based on demand, providing significant savings over time.

If your water pump fails, the first step is to turn off the power to the pump to prevent any further damage. Check for common issues such as clogs, electrical problems, or mechanical failures. If you cannot identify the problem, contact a professional who specializes in pump repairs. Prompt action can help minimize damage and repair costs.

There are several things you can do to maintain your sump pump and prevent sump pump problems. For instance, keeping a lid on your sump pit goes a long way in protecting your pump system from silt, sand, dirt, and other debris. When water drains from the outside, such as along your foundation, or with melting snow, water runoff often brings sediment with it.

Also be wary of corrosion, particularly if your sump pump system is made of metal. Keep an eye out for rust and have it inspected regularly by a plumber or sump pump technician.

A sump pump's lifespan is typically 7 to 10 years, though the general range can be anywhere from 5 to 15 years. The specific type of pump is a major factor: pedestal sump pumps last an average of 20 to 25 years, whereas submersible sump pumps last between 5 and 15 years. While pedestal pumps are less expensive to service, they are also louder and more prone to clogging.

Several other factors influence longevity, including the pump's quality, usage frequency, and maintenance schedule. A high-quality pump that is well-maintained in a dry climate may last for two decades, while a lower-quality, poorly maintained pump in an area with a high water table or frequent flooding may fail in six years or less.

Regular maintenance, including annual inspections and tuneups from a professional, can significantly extend the pump's life. It is time to consider a replacement if your sump pump runs constantly, cycles frequently, shows visible rust or corrosion, or trips a circuit breaker. As a preventative measure, many homeowners replace their pumps every eight years. It's also worth noting that a manufacturer's warranty can indicate expected lifespan, and some home insurance policies may not cover water damage from a pump that is past its recommended replacement date.
