"SLC Landscaping and Dumpsters provided exceptional service for my tree trimming project for three very large mature trees. The most compelling reason that I accepted the very competitive bid from SLC Landscaping and Dumpsters was that Corey was very knowledgeable about my trees. He provided information about the current health of the trees, listened to my concerns and understood my expectations and priorities during the pre-bid walk through at my home. He promptly assured me that the two different types of trees would benefit from different types of trimming due to the types, conditions and damage present in the wood. I was reassured to know that the trimming would not include tree branch topping or just whacking away at the tree branches. Their tree trimming process was explained in detail during the walk through. The crew arrived promptly as scheduled. They worked quickly, removed all the branches and cleaned up the area around the tree. I am very happy with the results."

"They came out to give me a quote the same day I called. They gave me a price that I thought was very fair, unlike their competitors. I hired them to remove some large branch's from a 40 foot pine tree that had fallen on the roof of my house during a recent snow storm. They showed on the scheduled day, at the time they said they would. They came with a full crew, equipment, and the knowhow. Instead of just throwing the branch's on the ground, they lowered them down by ropes being very carefully. After watching them working on the 10 or 12 branches, I hired them to take down the entire 40 foot tree. When the tree was down they cleaned up the area better than it was when they arrived. I will defiantly hire them again for ALL of my yard projects, and will recommend them to all of my neighbors, or anyone else. VERY PLEASED WITH THEIR SERVICE!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Pruning a tree is a yearly DIY job that involves removing small dead branches, leaves, and blooms to help the tree grow bigger and stronger. You can often complete the job with basic home gardening tools. Trimming a tree, however, removes larger sections to control the direction the tree grows in and protects your home, utility wires, and yard from potentially dangerous branches.

You should avoid cutting off the top of mature cherry trees. This process is called tree topping, and it’s not recommended for cherry trees—or any trees, for that matter. Tree topping removes between one-third to half of the length of the tree trunk, resulting in structurally unsound, fruitless suckers. The only exception is for saplings. Young pie, sour, and tart cherry trees that are over 30 inches tall in the fall or winter before the tree blooms can benefit from heading cuts.

There are many signs that a tree is diseased or dying, and if you suspect that’s the case, you should call an arborist immediately. You might notice rot or fungus on the trunk or that the tree is beginning to lean to one side. Brittle branches or signs of root damage are other indicators that a tree is in trouble. If the tree is dying, it might be time to cut the tree down so it doesn’t fall.

Tree borers are difficult to control and remove once they make a home in your tree. However, with patience and determination, some methods can slow the damage or even eliminate the pests. But, once the damage is too much for the tree to handle, the only solution becomes removing it. Talk to a tree specialist early for the best chance at saving your tree.

You can start your search for a reputable arborist online by looking for professionals who hold the proper licensing and are fully insured. Next, read through some online reviews to see what kind of service the expert brings to the table, and confirm that they don’t have a history of complaints with the Better Business Bureau. Finally, you can ask the professional for a list of references and then call them to ask questions about the service, professionalism, value, and more that the expert brings to the table.
