"Wally was able to take our general ideas for a sun room & turn them into a quality work of art.  His architectural knowledge & experience was extensive & his recommendations on hardware, materials of construction, best practices, etc. was impressive.  We went through several revisions as our ideas evolved & Wally was always patient, available & very professional.  His graphic systems allowed us to make revisions as we discussed the designs & see the results instantly in 3D views.  The level of detail was such that we felt we were standing in the new room.  Our Homeowner's Association indicated that it was among the best packages it had seen & approval was very quick.  We would highly recommend Wally."

"What can I say about Dwelling Designs? A LOT! But if I write everything it will be a book. So â will try to summarize as best as I canâ ¦and itâ s still a book! Please take the time to read! If youâ re looking for a firm that listens, is creative, patient, and overall AWESOME â you canâ t go wrong with Dwelling Designs. Laura, Ronnie and Richard came highly recommended by our builder. Initially, I had reservations about going with a firm that had just gone out on their own after working for a large architectural firm, but decided to make a consultation appointment with them to â interviewâ them and for them to â interviewâ us of our wants and needs in a new build. We also went and walked our lot with them discussing the vision and layout that we had in mind. They took COPIOUS notes on everything we discussed in the meeting and walking the lot. I donâ t even remember how long we met with them but was immediately sold, and asked them to proceed. After our initial meeting, a first draft of a front/rear elevation was done as well as a floor plan. I was SHOCKEDâ ¦they hit it out of the ballpark on the first pass. They captured everything we wanted in a new home build. We did make some minor tweaks on the floor plan and elevation but didnâ t have to change much. And â because Iâ m such a visual person and have a hard time visualizing flat drawings, they produced 3D renderings and videos for me. And, even included some of my color choices for paint, flooring, and also included in the 3D renderings some very specific furniture pieces that we are keeping. Once we decided that everything was final, they produced all the detailed construction drawings for electrical, plumbing, roof, etc., etc. We sat down with them and went through everything and made some minor changes, then came home and studied it all in-depthâ ¦made a few other changes on electrical and plumbing location, but nothing major. Bottom line â these folks ROCK!!!! You canâ t go wrong with hiring Laura, Ronnie and Richard to design your new home build! If you donâ t, shame on you!"

"Eric the owner was very professional and knowledgeable! His staff was here everyday on time and worked delinquently which is rare in this business! I have a retail store and Eric and his crew did a full remodel on half of my store which covered around 4000 sq feet. They transformed it into this absolutely fabulous space for my custom to enjoy!"

Architects questions, answered by experts

In the United States, architects must be licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia before being allowed to practice or seek business. Licensing requirements vary state-to-state, but overall the architect must be educated, attain a certain level of experience, submit to and pass an examination, and register as an architect. Find out if your architect is licensed using Angi’s contractor licensing search tool

There are differences between universal design and ADA accommodations, but the outcomes are often similar. While universal design is a proactive process that takes a social justice approach to accessibility for all, ADA accommodations are focused specifically on accessibility for individuals living with disabilities. ADA accommodations often take the shape of wider doors and hallways, ramps, elevators, lower counters and sinks, and easy-to-grab door handles; universal design can include these plus emphasize better lighting, tractioned floors, and other building elements that allow all people to use buildings more comfortably.

A floor plan is a less detailed illustration showing a building or room's layout from above, including elements like windows, doors, walls, and fixtures. It offers a simplified view for homeowners. In contrast, a blueprint is a more detailed, to-scale architectural drawing that includes all parts of the building plans, such as structural elements, construction details, and utility schematics. While a floor plan can be a type of view within a blueprint, the complete blueprint contains all the necessary details to turn the plan into a reality.

The essential difference between an architect and an engineer is that architects typically focus more on the aesthetic design of buildings, although not without consideration for the structural integrity of the building. Engineers focus more on the structural, technical, and practical aspects of whether and how an architectural design can be built as drawn. You may need to hire both types of professionals if you’re designing and building a new home.

In most cases, yes, hiring a draftsperson will be more affordable than the cost of hiring an architect. However, it’s important to note that the reason is because these professionals provide different services. Draftspersons are more affordable because they do more general mock-ups that help align your contractors with your vision for your home renovation project. An architect will provide more detailed drawings that include technical specifications, structural considerations, and even mechanical components, like electrical box and HVAC ductwork placement.
