"In July 2021, Aaron's did an excellent job during our AC maintenance of two refrigerated air units. The technician was very thorough when cleaning and servicing our units and furnace downstairs. I have seen other AC company techs do this same work, but Aaron's tech was by far the best. He left the work areas neat and clean afterwards. Hope to see him again early summer!"

"We had an issue with our AC unit where the power would kick on, and the air was blowing, but it was not cold. The business owner (Gilbert Overa) came out to inspect our HVAC unit himself. He confirmed that the issue was an ac coil leak and that we would need to replace that part of our HVAC system. He gave me a quote on the parts and labor that was about 75% of what another company wanted. He walked me through the issue, showed me where the leak was happening, walked me through why it couldn't just be repaired, where/when he was going to be able to find the replacement for my discontinued 11-year-old 4-ton Rheem HVAC unit, and how much replacing the coil assembly was going to cost me. Very reasonable pricing, very professional, his team came and fixed everything within 48 hours. AMAZING! Airmax is now officially my furnace, heating, cooling, air conditioning company. Thank you, Gilbert."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, or ASHRAE, sets the standard guidelines for air changes per hour in homes and businesses. The International Residential Code, or IRC, also sets ACH requirements for residences and bases those requirements off of ASHRAE standards plus climate specifics related to your location.

Capacitors are the most frequent part of an HVAC system to experience failure. These components are crucial for starting the motors that power the fans and compressor, but over time, they may become worn or fail due to electrical surges or regular wear and tear. When capacitors malfunction, HVAC systems may experience decreased heating or cooling efficiency, or even total system failure. Replacement or maintenance of capacitors is a common requirement for the optimal functioning of HVAC systems.

Because of the improved efficiency, ACs with higher SEER ratings tend to cool down your home better than models with a lower SEER. Higher-SEER AC units have a higher cooling capacity and a lower energy demand, meaning they may help cool your space faster without running up the electricity bill.

The cost to repair an air conditioner averages around $350 to $450, but the price can range from $100 to over $3,000. The final cost depends on the type of air conditioner, the extent of the damage, and the specific parts that need replacement. For example, repairing a window AC unit typically costs between $100 and $250, while central air conditioner repairs can range from $300 to $3,000. A simple fix like replacing a dirty filter might only cost $10 to $50, but a major issue like a broken compressor could cost around $2,000 or more, potentially making it more cost-effective to replace the entire system. Due to the need for specialty tools and handling of refrigerants, repairs more complex than changing a filter are best left to a professional.

An HVAC system typically lasts between 10 and 30 years, with an average lifespan of 15 to 25 years. The longevity of the system is influenced by factors such as the quality of the unit, usage frequency, local climate, and how well it is maintained. Regular maintenance, including cleaning, filter replacements, and professional inspections, can help maximize its lifespan. Different components within the system have varying life expectancies. For example:

  • Furnaces: 15 to 30 years

  • Boilers: 20 to 35 years

  • Air Conditioners (AC units): 12 to 20 years

  • Heat Pumps: 10 to 20 years

  • Ductless Mini-Splits: 10 to 30 years
