Small jobs welcome

Although new to El Paso, I am not new to the remodeling world. Originally from Southeast Massachusetts, I started my construction journey early on.\n After attending a technical high school for welding and fabrication, immediately after graduating I started to work as a TIG welder. I worked for a small company who specialized in unique one of a kind metal working. From spiral staircases to exotic tables and kitchen pieces. My skill set quickly grew, refining my finish work and attention to detail. Then in 2016 I started to work for myself. My skills transferred over into the other trades and I ended up becoming a hotel and residential remodeler. \n Currently taking on small projects. After corona and a 5 year hiatus due to joining the military, I am back into remodeling. I am eager to help you out and get your home feeling new and beautiful again!

"I have a couple dogs that like to chew on the carpet on my stairs. I have had it repaired twice previously. This time I decided to go with Gus Flooring and Carpet and I am extremely happy that I did. Not only was the work more professionally completed, he repaired a few items from the other companies, his price was a 1/3 less expensive. Gusâ Flooring and Carpet will be the ONLY ones I call for my Flooring and Carpet needs. I cannot express my gratitude strong enough for this Company."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Most cities accept old carpet as bulk trash, typically without any nails or glue on the base of the carpet. You may be required to request a specific pickup and wrap the carpet into specific bags. You can also visit your local recycling center and pay a small fee to have the carpet materials recovered.

Your room doesn’t need to be completely empty to restretch a carpet, but you’ll need enough space that you can move around furniture to access the wrinkled areas and the wall where you’re reattaching the carpet. A contractor will move your furniture out of the way before they start the job, but you can save money by moving your furniture before they arrive.

While it is possible to install carpet yourself, it is a challenging DIY project that requires precise measurement, proper cutting skills, and knowledge of correct installation techniques. The process involves multiple steps, including removing old flooring, installing underlayment and tack strips, and stretching the carpet to prevent wrinkles, which can take several days to complete.

Before starting, consider these factors:

  • Warranty: Many manufacturers' warranties are voided if the carpet is not installed by a professional.

  • Tools: You will need to buy or rent specialized equipment like a knee kicker, carpet stretcher, and seam roller.

  • Complexity: DIY installation is most suitable for simple, straightforward rooms. Projects involving stairs or floor vents are significantly more difficult.

  • Cost: While you can save on labor, the cost of tools plus the risk of expensive mistakes—which may require re-installation—can make hiring a professional more cost-effective in the long run.

Given the potential for errors, voided warranties, and the need for special tools, hiring a local carpet installer is often recommended to ensure the job is done correctly and safely.

Laminate flooring takes about 24 to 48  hours to settle. Before this, planks are not completely acclimated to your home, and walking on them could cause shifting and permanent damage to the flooring. You should allow floorboards to acclimate for 48 to 72 hours before installing so that they can adjust to your home’s humidity and temperature levels, but they will continue to acclimate and settle after installation. For this reason, avoid placing any furniture in the room for 72 hours after installation.

Your floors will continue to settle for a few months after installation, becoming less bouncy as they rest.

It’s possible to reuse household materials to cover floors, but they won’t provide the same level of protection as dedicated materials. They’re also more difficult to tape down and more prone to slipping and bunching up—and any dirt or debris on them could scratch or stain your floors. That being said, extra materials like these can be useful for protecting the sides of furniture and placing in areas that could use added protection.
