When the work was completed, the two gentlemen picked the trash and carried away my old water softener. The cost for services was reasonable and the office will work with you on any questions regarding reasonable cost adjustments. Take this one seriously! If your oven smells like gas when it’s off, this is a telltale sign of a gas leak that can lead to a fire or explosion. In addition, a small leak has the potential to turn into a major leak without warning if any part of your piping or tubing breaks. Potential sources of a leak include the gas valve, burner, joint, or connection lines behind the stove. If the leak appears to be significant, you should contact the gas company or fire department.  

Consider an annual inspection conducted by a local plumber to prevent dangerous and destructive leaks. If you recently moved into an older home or are concerned about the age of your gas lines, call an inspector for a closer look. You may also be required to call an inspector after your contractor installs a new line for an appliance.

A few factors determine the amount of time it takes to convert from an oil to a gas furnace, mainly adding in the gas lines, updating your appliances, removing the old oil system, and installing a chimney line. These projects can vary, but you should expect them to take at least two or three days to complete.

The cost to move a gas line is around $500 on average or $20 per linear foot . A pro will carefully disconnect the existing gas line and reroute it to its new path. This may involve excavation if the line is underground or drywall work to repair your walls and ceilings. The project will finish with a pressure test to check for leaks and turning the gas line back on.

While some building codes allow galvanized pipe for natural gas, it shouldn’t be used for propane. Propane can cause the pipe to wear down, leading to dangerous leaks. Instead of galvanized piping for propane, you should consider coated copper, black iron, or corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST). For underground propane line installation, you can use polyethylene (PE).
