Customers say: True professional

"Chris from Davalos Masonry came to our home and reviewed the repairs needed to an brick and stone arch and pilar in my driveway. The price for the tear down and rebuild was fair and the work was done as I requested. This a family owned business and they treat you like family while performing the work. I'm so happy I choose Davalos to repair my home. If you need any type of brick, stone or concrete work done at your home or business. This is the company you should do business with."

"Pinnacle is a very professional and highly rated company, which is why I chose them for my foundation work. I needed sixteen piers placed. They performed the work in two days, including five concrete breakouts and one tunnel. Lots of dirt piled up, but every bit was cleaned up and made as if they hadn't been there. Very friendly workers and they kept me informed every step of the way. I would recommend Pinnacle to anyone and everyone needing foundation repair."

"They put up a retaining wall in my back yard. They came over on a late Thursday afternoon to dig the trench and we're at my house Friday morning before I left for work at 7am and we're finished by 11.30 am. It looks beautiful and surpassed my expectations. Definitely will use them again for my deck replacement. Also they were really reasonable. Would have provided pics but don't see a way to upload for this review."

"I gladly recommend Accurate Foundation Repair. They recently added to my home 9 new exterior and 5 new interior piers plus adjusted several already existing piers. The crew arrived promptly and obviously knew what they were doing. Doors that wouldn't close now close and lock perfectly. Thank you Accurate Foundation."

"Steven provided a free inspection of the foundation. He measured height differentials around the interior of the house and reviewed the exterior. He was very knowledgeable of the repair required and answered all questions I had for him. he showed different ways to repair the foundation. He stated he loved his job and it showed in the way he performed the inspection."

"It was a pleasure working with Christopher! I sent pictures of the job, and he responded quickly with a fair quote. He arrived on time and efficiently completed the job. He was very polite and left the work area clean at the end of the day. While my project was relatively small, I appreciate that he accepted payment after the job was completed. I needed an old doorbell removed, and I had a decorative stone falling out of place above a 2nd floor window. He did an excellent job match the brick and mortar as he filled the gap from the old doorbell and secured the falling stone. His craftsmanship is excellent. I would highly recommend his company for any brick and stone job! Thank you for a job well done!!!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

This is largely dependent on the size and hardness of the rock, but a range of tools might work, including hammers, chisels, rock hammers, sledge hammers, and more. You'll need a jackhammer for the very biggest rock-breaking jobs.

Brick spalling—which refers to the crumbly, flaky, or pitted appearance that can develop over time—is caused by a few different conditions. These include:

  • Climates with constant freeze-thaw cycles

  • Use of non-breathable sealants

  • High-pressure water cleaning

  • Improper installation

While you can’t do anything about the weather, you can preserve your bricks by cleaning them with soapy water and a good old-fashioned scrubbing. Pressure washers may be satisfying to use, but they can eventually wear away the surface of your bricks. If you don’t have advanced-level DIY skills in masonry, you can hire a reputable masonry contractor in your area for your project.

Always work with licensed and certified masons in your area when installing a stone wall or even a stone veneer. Just like all home designers, they should provide an impressive portfolio and offer a free estimate for the project. Pick the pro who fits your budget and schedule and, most importantly, helps you realize your landscape vision.

Stone can last anywhere from 15 to 100 years before it needs to be restored. You should clean your stone flooring or countertops regularly using cleaners designed for stone surfaces. Stay on top of vacuuming to prevent scratches from deteriorating stone faster, deep clean your stone surfaces using a pH-neutral cleaning solution at least once a year, and reseal the stone every one to five years, depending on foot traffic or usage.

Yes, you can cut patio stones with a circular saw. Similar to using an electric grinder, you will need to use a diamond blade as this is the most effective blade for cutting a material like stone. The stone must be wet when using a circular saw to ensure the cut is smooth.
