"Mr. Electric of Dallas, sent me a text with a picture of their technician that they were sending out, and they let me know 30 minutes before his arrival so I could run errands and get back in time. After showing the technician the work I needed, he quickly provided a reasonable quote, and said he could begin work if I agreed. So over the next two hours I got outlets installed in 3 locations, and a new dimmer switch in the dining room replacing a damaged one. Great service!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

If you’re wondering whether an electrical panel in the bathroom needs to be moved, the answer is yes. Due to the risks of shocks and electrical fires, electrical panels cannot be located in bathrooms per National Electric Code Volume 70. Additionally, gasses, vapors, liquids, and temperature fluctuations can all compromise the functionality of your electrical panel, so it’s important to install it in a dry, cool, safe, and easily accessible location.

Durations range from an hour for simple jobs to full workdays for significant upgrades.

Yes, the National Electric Code (NEC) requires at least one GFCI outlet in each sectioned-off portion of an unfinished basement, partly to ensure a power source is available for a sump pump in case of flooding. If you install multiple outlets in your unfinished basement, all of them must be GFCI-protected. For finished basements, standard outlets are generally permitted, but at least one GFCI outlet is still required per circuit. Keep in mind that local municipalities may have additional codes, so it's best to consult a licensed electrician to ensure your home is fully compliant.

You can use a double-pole switch for a regular light fixture, but it's unnecessary and won’t be the most efficient choice. A single-pole switch works perfectly for standard lights. Double-pole handle high-power appliances that require both hot wires to be disconnected. Using a single-pole switch for regular lights is more cost-effective, simpler, and more common in residential settings.

Rewiring an electric system in a house typically ranges between $2,000 and $9,000, but a simple project can cost as low as $1,500. More complex upgrades run $10,000 or higher. The price depends on the size of your home, how accessible the wiring is, the cost of materials, and local electrician fees.
