"I was needing a fireplace burner and glass installed at my boyfriend's house. I called three companies. One did not show to the scheduled appointment. I called Sweeps N Ladders. This is the best company with great customer service. Paul is great! I am now coordinating for him to redoing my home fireplace. He is changing the wood burner and placing glass. His fees are reasonable and he is very professional. Highly recommended!!"

Small jobs welcome

"We had these guys finish our fireplace from 10 feet to about 19, and the roof was at a strange angle. They took the time to make the cuts on the bricks at the top to match the roof making the fireplace look fully finished and very beautiful! I would recommend them to anyone needing work done. I plan to use them again in spring for our next project."

"Casey came to check out the leak I had in my roof. The problem was from a hot water heater vent that was left after converting to a tankless. Strong winds from storms moved the vent and broke the seal causing the leak. Gave me two choices…remove the old vent and patch roof or shorten the vent on the roof to cut down on the wind moving it, and sealing it. Went with the latter…had it done immediately…correctly and at a great rate. No leaks even with the recent storms. Very happy"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Regular cleaning prevents the buildup of creosote and soot, ensuring good airflow and reducing the risks of chimney fires that could compromise safety.

Chimney crowns may be stone, concrete, or metal but most crowns are made of concrete. It’s not recommended to build chimney crowns with mortar (which is different from concrete) due to it’s weaker composition (especially when exposed to the outside elements). Most chimney crowns are custom made to fit your home’s specific chimney.

A liter of bioethanol costs $11 and burns for around four hours, making it cost around $2.75 per hour to keep your bioethanol fireplace running. For comparison, natural gas costs around $0.50 per hour, and propane costs around $1.60 per hour.

How much it costs you to run your bioethanol fireplace largely depends on how often you use it. Hypothetically speaking, if you run your fireplace for four hours a week year-round, you’ll go through one liter of biofuel per week or about $570 per year to run the fireplace.

The cost to clean and inspect an oil-fired chimney generally ranges from $150 to $500. The price is influenced by factors such as the chimney's height, the level of soot buildup, local labor costs, and whether any additional repairs or liner replacements are required.

Neglecting to clean your chimney can lead to serious safety hazards. A primary risk is the buildup of creosote, a highly flammable substance that can ignite and cause a dangerous chimney fire. This buildup can also create blockages in the flue, resulting in poor venting of smoke, soot, and toxic gases like carbon monoxide, which can then enter your home and create dangerously poor indoor air quality. Additionally, creosote is acidic and can damage the chimney's mortar and metal components over time, potentially allowing smoke to leak into your house. To prevent these issues, it is essential to schedule an annual chimney cleaning with a professional.
