"Mario did an excellent job fixing our gas fireplace! He called within 5 minutes of me contacting Angi and came out the same day. He repaired and cleaned our fireplace and it is working great now just in time for freezing weather! We highly recommend!"

"Service tech was outstanding. Explained what needed to be done and why it was necessary for long-term condition of fireplace. He cleaned and acid washed inside of fireplace and cleaned soot out of chimney. Work was done efficiently and all clean up after job was excellent. The only negative, the work for $890 was considerably more then I expected to pay."

"Casey came to check out the leak I had in my roof. The problem was from a hot water heater vent that was left after converting to a tankless. Strong winds from storms moved the vent and broke the seal causing the leak. Gave me two choices…remove the old vent and patch roof or shorten the vent on the roof to cut down on the wind moving it, and sealing it. Went with the latter…had it done immediately…correctly and at a great rate. No leaks even with the recent storms. Very happy"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Sap, despite its stickiness, is primarily made of water and is responsible for wood being “green” when it’s first cut. Green wood doesn’t burn very easily and will snap and crackle a lot, not ideal for a fire pit or fireplace. That’s why it’s best to let fresh, sap-filled wood season or dry out for at least a season before you start burning.

A chimney cap typically lasts between three and 25 years. This wide range is due to several variables, including the material it's made from, the local climate, and how frequently you use your fireplace. Living in an area with severe weather can shorten its lifespan. Regular inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs as needed can help your chimney cap last as long as possible.

Some types of electric fireplaces use more electricity than others. Models that produce 1,500 watts will have more of an effect on your heating bill than 750-watt models.

Electric fireplaces use an average of $1.85 of electricity every eight hours. These minimal operational costs aren’t likely to make a big difference in your electric bill—unless you’re using it as a primary heating source for your home and it’s running most of the time.

In most homes, your chimney and HVAC are separate from each other. However, you can use your chimney to save on heating costs in the winter. Turn off your HVAC system and start a cozy fire, then watch the electric bills drop during the coldest months. Make sure your flue is closed when not in use so that you don’t end up pumping heat or cool air from your system outside.

While most stoves won’t last two decades, some do! Gas stoves and pellet stoves are more likely to go the distance than electric stoves or induction cooktops, and maintenance can go a long way toward increasing longevity.
