"Excellent! I had a huge, tall Mesquite Tree in a very narrow area at the gate entrance to my yard. I spoke on the phone with Mr. Luna, he arrived promptly, and he and his crew were able to take down that big tree, removed all cut limbs & logs, and blew off the sawdust within 3 hours. I highly recommend Mr. Luna. His company is Jesus Luna Tree Services, and I will hire him again when necessary."

"Steel Root Tree Services highly exceeded our expectations. They came out a gave us a quote within a day or so and from that point forward they followed up with us for scheduling while maintaining great communication. They were always engaged with us from start to finish. We had 5 huge evergreen love oak trees removed which took two days to complete the project. They busted there a*% from start to finish and I HIGHLY recommend them for any tree service."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

To maintain trees on a commercial property, perform regular pruning, monitor for diseases, and apply fertilization to promote healthy growth. It is also important to remove any hazardous branches to keep the trees healthy and prevent potential liability issues.

Getting a tree pro with the right experience can be the difference between your transplanted tree surviving or not. When hiring a local tree transplanting and removal service, follow up on references, check their portfolio, ask for a breakdown of the costs, and get proof of liability and workers’ compensation insurance.

Also, look for companies certified by the International Society of Arboriculture or registered with the Tree Care Industry Association and make sure they have an appropriate state or city license.

Generally, you’ll want to prune back the trunk by 1 to 2 feet each year to promote bushy growth. Doing so concentrates vegetative buds closer to the bottom of the tree, where you can easily harvest fruit. For side shoots that are a year old, leave at least six leaves.

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.

Ideally, you’ll have a good enough relationship with your neighbors that you can kindly mention this task in regular conversation. However, every neighbor (and neighborhood) is different. Your best bet will always be to ask directly and nicely, offering to contribute to the tree trimming efforts if you’d like. However, if you are bothered by the tree and your neighbor is unwilling to cut it, you can involve the help of the homeowners’ association or local authorities, if applicable.

For safety reasons, leaning trees are best removed by a professional, as they may often tear away from the hinge, causing you to lose control over where the tree falls. If you choose to cut down a tree leaning slightly, avoid cutting off root protrusions before you start. Make your hinge a little longer than usual by cutting it deeper (up to 30% of the diameter) and applying a wedge into the felling cut on the side the tree is leaning. Stand away from the direction the tree leans while making your felling cut.
