"Rick and his crew are dependable, honest and knowledgeable of good construction practices. They keep you informed at all times and are friendly to work with. The quality of their work is very good and they can handle most if not all of your exterior siding and roofing needs. They were hired to replace siding on second level of my two story house and paint all t111 siding and trim boards. Reasonably priced Job well done. I would highly recommend them."

Customers say: Quick response

"Ramiro’s Roofing, Siding & Roofing Repairs were one of three referrals given to me by Home Advisor. My rental that is between tenants showed signs of a leak in the roof from the heavy rainfall over the past few weeks. Set up an appointment for Ramiro to check it out. In addition I had some siding issues where the nails were backing out. He quickly assessed the problem and provided me a quote to take care of both items. I was impressed with Ramiro’s knowledge and the reputation of his company’s work quality and service and accepted the quote. Ramiro started the job a day later and was done the same day. I was very pleased with the siding and the issue that caused the leak was expertly resolves. If I ever need siding or roofing service in the future I will go to Ramiro."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Yes, mixing siding types will affect your home value, and in most cases, it will improve curb appeal and add to the value of your home. This is especially true if you get the benefit of the high-end appearance of brick or stone siding but save on siding costs by covering most of the exterior with more affordable vinyl or fiber cement.

Traditionally, you place a layer of ⅜-inch foam board beneath aluminum siding. This gives you a smooth surface to which you can fasten the trim and siding. Beneath the foam board, you should have some kind of waterproof sheathing to further protect your home from water damage. It’s possible this sheathing is already under your current siding.

If you have stucco on the outside of your home, it’s technically considered cladding and not siding, but beyond that, it’s impossible to tell without a little digging. Without damaging the siding material, expose part of it to see if there’s an air gap between the siding and your exterior wall. If there is, you have cladding. If the siding is affixed directly to the exterior wall, you have a simple siding system.

Generally speaking, the thicker the siding, the higher the quality. Thicker siding provides a stronger resistance against extreme weather conditions. Thicker siding also tends to fade more slowly under the sun. Hardie boards, a popular fiber cement siding option, is usually 5/16 inches thick. Meanwhile, masonry-finished cement siding varies from 5/8 to 5/8 inches thick.

Some homeowners use caulk on the edges of clapboard siding to help seal it. However, this method invites new problems. With so many gaps sealed, clapboard siding is often unable to drain properly and moisture from rain or other sources can build up inside. This can lead to rot and other issues over time. When repairing clapboards, it’s best to avoid caulking the final product. The exception is trim around windows and doors, which should be caulked to avoid moisture problems.
