"Excellent! I had a huge, tall Mesquite Tree in a very narrow area at the gate entrance to my yard. I spoke on the phone with Mr. Luna, he arrived promptly, and he and his crew were able to take down that big tree, removed all cut limbs & logs, and blew off the sawdust within 3 hours. I highly recommend Mr. Luna. His company is Jesus Luna Tree Services, and I will hire him again when necessary."

"This is the 5th time, we called on A Best. And, as always, Jesus and his helper, Angel, did a fantastic job. They carefully cut and trimmed the huge oak tree in our front yard, sealed the cuts, and then thoroughly cleaned the area. Jesus is more than a tree trimmer, he is a tree artist. We will certainly contact A Best again, the next time we need tree-trimming service."

"Steel Root Tree Services highly exceeded our expectations. They came out a gave us a quote within a day or so and from that point forward they followed up with us for scheduling while maintaining great communication. They were always engaged with us from start to finish. We had 5 huge evergreen love oak trees removed which took two days to complete the project. They busted there a*% from start to finish and I HIGHLY recommend them for any tree service."

"Adrian and his crew were outstanding! They removed a very large ash tree from my backyard near a fence and shed. From start to finish, the team was professional and very careful. I rated them five out of five stars because they deserve it. After the huge task of taking down and hauling the tree out, the team cleaned my backyard much better than when they arrived. Adrian is easy to work with and very personable. He explained everything to me as they went along and adjusted to a couple of requests I made without hesitation. The price he quoted was very reasonable and cheaper than a previous quote I received but I was more concerned with quality of work and timeliness. Againâ ¦..five out of five stars! I also appreciated that the crew focused on my work and did not take outside calls while working. Adrian and Southwest Tree Care is my go to company for tree care in the future for sure."

Small jobs welcome

"Oak Valley Tree Service recently trimmed our oak trees. Armando and his crew showed up on time. They cut the trees exactly as I had requested when he provided the quote, and sprayed pruning paint on all the wounds. The crew cleaned up very nicely when the job was complete. The company also carrier General Liability Insurance which is a must. They did a fantastic job from start to finish. I would highly recommend this company!!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Most experts recommend removing a tree that has sustained more than 25% loss in the limbs, trunk, or circumference of the bark. Doing an initial trimming of damaged and dangling branches, but then waiting a few days of monitoring to decide how much more you might need to cut can help you better assess the total damage to the tree. However, consulting a tree maintenance pro to make this determination the best course of action before removing a tree.

Tree removal can be quite expensive, especially for larger projects, but you can use the following tips to help keep costs down:

  • Do the yard cleanup afterward yourself

  • Choose to leave the logs on your property and split them yourself

  • Opt to leave the stump in the ground and tackle stump grinding yourself

  • Pull permits for tree removal, if necessary, to avoid fines

  • Pay to have multiple trees removed at once

  • Remove tree in the late winter or early spring during off-season

Some people prefer to leave or even carve a leftover stump, but we recommend removing it if possible. You can often dig out smaller trunks with a shovel once they have died and dried out. You can have stumps professionally removed, or request a service to grind them down to ground level so they can be replaced with other landscaping or objects.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

If a tree isn’t pruned, it can inhibit proper growth and fruit production, cause damage to both the tree and your property, and create entry points for pests and diseases. Pruning a tree enhances its stability, appearance, shape, and growth. Pruning trees regularly can also save you money long-term by avoiding overgrown or dangerous dying trees.
