"Last October, my sister, an elderly veteran living alone, contracted Genie Bath Systems to remodel her master and guest baths. She was diagnosed cancer and passed before the remodel was complete. Which, to be fair as we were not able to work with Genie while attending to my sister. The contract was expensive. Very expensive. The cost of the remodel is close to 1/4th the value of her home. I noticed there were issues with the remodel that showed a surprising lack of attention to detail. Genie sent people to address the issues twice. Yet issues remain. My calls to my contact at Genie are now being ignored. Also, the only document I have for the remodel is the contract my sister signed. It is not detailed. I have and continue to ask for a breakdown of the cost. An estimate or work order. This request is also being ignored. I am disappointed and have to wonder why Genie will not provide this information. I have several other questions for Genie that I will not go into here. But based on my experience, I cannot recommend Genie. In fact I would warn anyone considering Genie to be very careful about the cost of the contract."

If your boiler is 20 years old, it’s time to get a new one. Although it may seem to be working fine, it’s likely eating up more fuel than it should. Also, compared to a brand-new boiler, one that’s 20 years old is probably not working as well. When you get your new unit, you’ll notice that your home is heating more quickly, and the heat is consistent throughout all the rooms.

HVAC maintenance is crucial for the longevity of your unit. Without proper care, your HVAC unit can break down frequently. In addition, a system that is dirty and not cleaned correctly will not heat or cool as efficiently and will increase your energy bills due to the increase in energy consumption. Additionally, you will probably have to replace your unit sooner than you would if it were properly maintained, which will cost you more money. 

Boilers are equipped with multiple safety features to ensure safe operation. These include pressure relief valves to prevent overpressure, temperature high-limit switches to avoid overheating, and flame failure safety devices in gas boilers to cut off the gas supply if the flame goes out unexpectedly. Low water cutoffs prevent operation with insufficient water levels, and pressure gauges help monitor pressure levels. Ventilation and flue systems prevent the buildup of harmful gasses. Boilers often feature error code systems for automatic shutdown during malfunctions and gas leak detection for safety. Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure these safety features function correctly.

To bleed a radiator, first turn off the heat to the system. Then, lay a towel under the valve, open the bleed valve, wait 20 to 30 seconds for air to escape, and gently close the valve. You should repeat this process for every radiator you have in your home. Once your radiator valves have all been closed carefully, you can turn them back on.

Not every type of baseboard heater needs to be bled. Hydronic baseboard heaters need to have air removed at least occasionally, but electric or gas versions that don’t use water at all don’t need to be bled. There are no pipes or valves on these models to worry about, nor any central boiler. Instead, they use heating elements or other methods to supply direct heat to a room.
