"We were so pleased to find that Brandon works on Saturday and did not charge extra for a weekend call. He was early to arrive and promptly diagnosed our problem which was corrected, and our outlets are back in service for guests this weekend. We highly recommend Switch Electric.

"Allgood Electric was prompt with their response, sending a technician out to give an estimate on the same day I called. The gentleman I worked with was Michael Lemon and he was incredibly polite and thorough. Always addressed me as â sirâ and got 2 light fixture installations done within an hour. He also spent a lot of time going over the details on installing 220v in the garage by branching out of main breaker box. He made sure to research the machinery I use so I am being supplied with all the correct specs. He has made sure to take the time to piece together a detailed estimate so all of the boxes are checked to avoid issues that would cause the estimate to be too far off of what final charges would be. Because of this, when itâ s time to move forward with that project, I will have no hesitations on investing the money to completing the project."

"Mr. Electric was extremely helpful and knowledgeable with the needs for our business. We needed to update our electrical systems since we kept having outlets go out and power go out in various areas of the office. Mr. Electric was prompt, knowledgeable, and able to resolve all of our issues on their first visit to our office. The prices were reasonable as well, especially considering the amount of work that was done and the level of professionalism they have! I will definitely contact them again with any of our electrical needs."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

To avoid drilling into wire, you will need to trace your home's wiring using a stud finder, wire detector, circuit tracer, or voltage finder. Since locating wires in your home can be difficult for some homeowners, hire a professional electrician with the experience and knowledge needed to safely handle electrical systems before drilling into any walls in your home.

Switching the hot and neutral wires in an outlet or receptacle, a condition known as reverse polarity, is dangerous. While the outlet will still function and provide power, it creates a significant electrical shock hazard because anything plugged into it will remain electrified even when switched off. If you touch a conductive part of the appliance, such as the metal components of a toaster, you could receive an electric shock.

Wiring a light switch wrong can cause a fire if the incorrect wiring causes arcing, meaning the current jumps uncontrolled from one conductor to another. Loose wires or worn wires that are not repaired or replaced can cause arcing. If you’re not 100% sure you can do the job safely, don’t attempt to wire a light switch on your own.

Qualified, licensed electricians will charge from $50 to $100 per hour. The cost to hire an electrician for emergency visits may range from $100 to $200 per hour because this urgent service usually takes place during off hours and may require an electrician to leave or reschedule jobs they’re currently working on. Scheduling work on holidays or during periods of high customer demand, like after a major storm, will also lead to higher rates or extra fees.

A home warranty usually covers electrical wiring work, depending on your specific plan. Most home warranty plans cover repairs for major appliances and home systems, including failure due to wear and tear. Home warranties aren’t as common as homeowners insurance, but they are more likely to cover old wiring.
