"It went fantastic! The appointment was easy to make and flexible. They kept me informed through emails and texts along the way about that appointment. The electrician that was assigned to me a ride clean with a proper and courteous attitude and ready to work. They showed respect for my home and property and we're very careful and moving around and then asking me if they could touch or move something in the house. In the end the job looks very professional and I know that they cover the work that they have done for up to a year. I would most highly recommend them to anyone that needs electrical service! I'm very happy with my experience with Mr Electric office San Antonio."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, wires are still hot, even if the light switch is off. The only way to ensure the wire is no longer live and that you can work with it safely is to open your circuit breaker, locate the breaker for the outlet you’re working with, and turn off the breaker for that outlet.

Electric water heaters use a high amount of electricity, so they’re best for homeowners who subsidize their electric bill with solar or who live in an area with inexpensive electricity. For others, gas water heaters versus electric water heaters may be the more cost-effective solution, with the added bonus of heating water quickly and efficiently. No matter which you choose, you can lower your water temperature as low as possible to keep costs down.

You may be able to spot common electrical dangers yourself, but it’s best to hire an electrician to diagnose and fix the issue. For example, you may be able to DIY small electrical fixes, like replacing an electrical outlet, but major electric repairs or replacements should be left to a professional electrician.

There are a few reasons your lights may be on, but the rest of your electrical outlets and appliances are not working. The first is that while one circuit blew out, the lights may be on another circuit than your other electrical fixtures. Alternatively, your powerless appliances may be plugged into a GFCI outlet that was tripped and needs to be reset. If these issues aren’t responsible for the problem, you may have dead outlets or a wiring issue. Either way, you should contact an electrician to identify and fix the issue.

Rewiring projects cost anywhere between $1,500 and $10,000 on average, depending on the complexity and the size of the rewiring. You can anticipate spending between $2 and $4 per square foot of wire, including labor and materials. Wire material ranges from $0.25 to $1.60 per linear foot.
