"Citywide Electric came to our home and repaired our circuit breaker that needed repair. We could not get our dryer plug to work, and they fixed out outlet quickly. Even went to a very famous home appliance get the part they needed. Lowered the cost of the repair for us also. Citywide electric are trustworthy, quick with repairs and we will definitely use them again, should the need arise."

"I highly recommend Thundercolt Electric. Gerardo came out, provided a bid and when I advised I was ready to get started they quickly got started on the project which included recessed lighting, new electrical outlets and switches, changing out electrical outlets and light switches, installing a surge protector for the home, installation of ceiling fans and a ring doorbell. Thunderbolt did an excellent job and I would hire them again for any work I may have and Iâ d recommend them to family and friends."

"I found Allgood Electric through the Internet and found a lot of good remarks. They were prompt. The electrician called when he was on his way. He went right to work, diagnosed the issue (a faulty breaker) began repairs. The charge was fair especially since they came right away. They are courtesous from the first call to finishing the work. I haighly recommend Allgood Electric. When I need an elecrician the are now the first onmy list."

"Mr. Electric was extremely helpful and knowledgeable with the needs for our business. We needed to update our electrical systems since we kept having outlets go out and power go out in various areas of the office. Mr. Electric was prompt, knowledgeable, and able to resolve all of our issues on their first visit to our office. The prices were reasonable as well, especially considering the amount of work that was done and the level of professionalism they have! I will definitely contact them again with any of our electrical needs."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Most upgrades take 1-5 days, depending on building size and wiring complexity.

You’ll need to locate and hire an electrician near you if there’s an electrical project you don’t feel comfortable tackling yourself. Generally, look for a contractor that specializes in the type of appliance or component that you need help with. For wiring, outlets and similar projects, a general electrician is your best bet. For larger remodels, a general contractor will often take care of electrical projects via subcontractors.

In general, 200 amps is enough for a house with a square footage of up to 1,800, or the average three-bedroom home. A 200-amp service allows your home to warm and cool itself while running multiple appliances at once. It's a good option for homes that have been extended, or after adding new appliances. 200-amp service is the current standard for homes, so in most cases, it will work for you.

You should hire a licensed electrician who is insured to perform any electrical work on your home, including lighting installation. States have different requirements for licensing and certifying electricians, so use Angi’s state licensing tool to review local guidelines.

Here are a few questions to ask electricians before hiring:

  • How many years of electrical experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you work with subcontractors?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three customer references?

Most standard residential water heaters, which are typically around 40 gallons and use 240 volts and between 3,500 and 5,500 watts, require a 30-amp, two-pole circuit breaker. For smaller, point-of-use water heaters using 120 volts and between 1,500 and 3,000 watts, a 30-amp breaker is also often adequate. However, some models may have different needs; units that use more watts than average may require a 40-amp breaker, while smaller units might only need a 20-amp breaker. Newer, tankless, or more energy-efficient models can also require a higher amperage. Having the correct breaker size is crucial for safe and efficient operation, so it's best to consult a licensed electrician to determine the specific needs of your water heater.
