Small jobs welcome

"As a first time home buyer, learning about home improvements, I really appreciated their patience and honesty in walking me through the process as well as choosing materials. I have had my floors done twice now due to unrelated foundation repairs. Both times, the quality of work has been amazing. Ive had other general contractors complement my floors and ask for their contact info. I have referred them to friends and colleagues. The next time I have a project that involves fixing or repairing my floor, I will reach out to DLR Flooring again."

"Abe and his crew came in and renovated my bathroom making it more ADA compliant. I had a huge lip on my shower which was busted out so it?s level with the floor now. They installed a shower bench with multiple grab bars. The flooring has texture which has grip which will help prevent slippery surfaces. They repainted the walls and got rid of the popcorn ceiling."

"Alan Boden was very easy to work with. He assessed our problem and offered options. We chose the one that we actually hadn't thought about. His crew did an excellent job of removing the wooden flooring; installing the tiles; and addressed all our concerns. We wish all the contractors we have dealt with were as professional, efficient and effective as Footprints Floors."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Carpet glue is very sticky, but it's not permanent. The glue usually lasts as long as a typical carpet installation, which is five to 15 years. For the best results, you should always use the right type of carpet glue for the area you're using it in. There are carpet glues for high-traffic areas, which are more high-quality and durable than others.

While it is possible to install carpet yourself, it is a challenging DIY project that requires precise measurement, proper cutting skills, and knowledge of correct installation techniques. The process involves multiple steps, including removing old flooring, installing underlayment and tack strips, and stretching the carpet to prevent wrinkles, which can take several days to complete.

Before starting, consider these factors:

  • Warranty: Many manufacturers' warranties are voided if the carpet is not installed by a professional.

  • Tools: You will need to buy or rent specialized equipment like a knee kicker, carpet stretcher, and seam roller.

  • Complexity: DIY installation is most suitable for simple, straightforward rooms. Projects involving stairs or floor vents are significantly more difficult.

  • Cost: While you can save on labor, the cost of tools plus the risk of expensive mistakes—which may require re-installation—can make hiring a professional more cost-effective in the long run.

Given the potential for errors, voided warranties, and the need for special tools, hiring a local carpet installer is often recommended to ensure the job is done correctly and safely.

Stain-resistant carpet might be worth it for your household if you have children or pets and expect spills to happen. While it may cost more than you expected upfront, you may save money in the long run if you have to replace your carpet less frequently (thanks to stains not absorbing down into the fibers).

Hardwood floors can be installed in most areas of the home, including living rooms, bedrooms, and hallways. However, with the exception of high-quality bamboo and engineered wood, hardwood floors are not recommended for areas with high moisture levels, such as bathrooms and basements, unless specifically designed for such environments. It's essential to consider the specific conditions of each room before choosing hardwood flooring.

The need to replace your flooring depends on the type of flooring and the amount of wear and tear it experiences through foot traffic. For example, you should replace carpet every ten years, but other, more durable options like tile can last up to 30 years. It’s best to speak with your flooring installation professional to determine the best course for replacing your flooring.
